Recently got my tires rotated and about 30 miles down the road from the shop I took a turn and the front two wheels locked up and the VSC light flashed as well as the slip indicator. As quick as they locked up was as quick as I was able to regain control of the truck. Quite scary when your steering wheel is turning but your sliding straight. I assume this has nothing to do with the tire rotation, but this has never happened before I got the tires rotated. Since then, it has happened a few more times, turning both left and right. Anybody else having/had this issue? Some people say that you need to wipe the VSC memory, but I want to see what else people have to say.

Truck is leveled with 285/70/17's and 1.5" spacers

Sounds like maybe an ABS sensor is dropping out when turning, you would need a scanner that can graph ABS data to confirm.
It's also possible it needs to be calibrated/zeroed but I don't see how rotating tires would change it unless they were really worn or the tire pressures are off, is your steering wheel straight when driving straight?

The steering wheel is not perfectly straight when driving straight.

That may be your problem, the VSC system uses steering angle in addition to acelerometers and the wheel speed sensors to determine if the truck is going in the direction the driver intends. If it determines steering angle does not match the direction the vehicle is going or it detects wheel slip it reduces engine power and/or activates the corresponding brakes to correct it.
Was your wheel straight prior to the tire rotation, you may just need an alignment and VSC reset.

The steering wheel was the same before the tire rotation as it is now. I am going to check the tire pressure after work today to see if it is over inflated. How do you recommend resetting the VSC?

I would reccomend getting your steering wheel straghtened out first.
The best way to recalibrate would be with a scanner but you can DIY there is a thread on it here.

Okay, I will get an alignment. I also just checked the tire pressure and all the tires were inflated to 38 lbs when I normally run them at 32. I aired down to 32. Maybe just maybe it was that simple, but I bet not.

Hello, did you ever figure out the issue? Or a fix to this? I have a 2011 tacoma pre runner with TRD sport pkg. I've been having the same issue for almost 2 years now. It's really scary going around wide turns since I never know when it's going to happen. I've been very lucky that each time the abs locks up no other cars have been next to me becauss it causes the truck to drastically pull in the direction of whichever side locks up. The 1st time it almost pulled me into the cement center divide and then the passenger side engaged immediately after the driver side stoped, causing me to go the opposite direction! It's happened maybe 7 times in the last 2 years. It started shortly after I replaced the UCA and got it alligned,( the lowers were replaced 6 months before that with no issues) I was told it was the abs speed sensor which I've had both replaced, and no luck on fixing the issue! Ive had new tires put on, it's been aligned several times since, due to 2 rack and pinion replacements.( The 1st one was faulty) My ABS and trac light comes on intermittently, at one point they were on almost all the time, although now they havent come on in about 6 months even though the issue is still happening. The last time it occured was 3 weeks ago. I've taken it to two different shops and both said they couldnt find anything wrong.l!! ‍The 1st was a regular automotive shop, they recommended replacing the ABS speed sensors, the second place specializes in suspension, they said they couldn't replicate any of what I described and found nothing wrong. Its so frusterating! This is my only vehicle and I have 2 kids who i drive around daily so I'm really concerned about getting into an accident! I've already spent so much money fixing what people recommend just for the problem to continue happening! I'm currently fleeing D.V and going through a divorce so finances are stretched thin. I can't afford to continue fixing crap for no reason. If anyone knows what the issue could be or how to fix I'd greatly appreciate any advice!! THANKS!!!

I would highly recommend the VSC calibration procedure. Read through it a couple of times before you attempt it, so you understand what you're doing, going in.
I had a similar problem a few years back and this took care of it.
There's a link to the procedure in DM93's post, above.

There are directions for resetting you VSC on this forum, really easy and doubtful that a tire shop would know the correct method.
How to reset and calibrate your VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) computer

My tire place has done mine, free of charge multiple times. They're good folks who know what they're doing.

I had this same issue with my 2011 after I installed my lift. VSC reset worked like a charm. Instead of using a wire for the short process, I used a male OBD2 pigtail with a switch wired in… a bit of an overkill yes, but now I have a special tool :)

I have had this recurring problem too after installing a mid travel lift on my 2015 DCLB. It’s absolutely terrifying when it happens on twisty, winding roads with oncoming traffic. Initially I wasn’t sure what the actual problem was and had the dealership investigate and they reset the VSC computer. That wasn’t TOO expensive at $150 but wish I had read more into it on the forums. Unfortunately it still occurs fairly regularly on freeway on/off ramps and switchback roads.
Has anyone tried just disabling the VSC system? Does that have any adverse effect on ABS or any other systems?

Sounds like the same thing I experience occasionally although only low speed sharp turns. Started after the lift and tires, I’ve been cautious but my kid is starting to drive, don’t want her to experience this. I’ll try the VSC calibration.
