As stated, definitely get on applying some sort of rust inhibitor like fluid film especially if you live in the rust belt or thereabouts. Do it every fall before it has a chance to even set in.

These trucks are pretty great, capable, and durable even stock with no mods, this website is a wealth of knowledge but is full of well intended folks with itchy fingers that need to mod mod mod so many will find problems that need solutions. Probably because it’s easier to convince the wife that money needs spent on solving a problem than fulfilling a desire.

Don’t panic about anything you read here, enjoy your truck!

The biggest vulnerability? Well, that'd be you...vulnerable to all the ladies you'll be pulling in with the Tacoma. Heyo!

..and by ladies, I mean other men.

..and by other men, I mean TW-type enthusiasts (obviously, we're sketchy). That, and those who think you're a traitor for not buying an "American" truck.

Seriously though, shouldn't be too many vulnerable things for many, many miles. Enjoy.

It's preventative. Front of engine, by idler pulley, there's a 3/4" heater hose that rubs on a bracket that supports the intake. Grimd the bracket down so it doesn't make contact. Toyota puts a braided sheathing around it but most knock the bracket down so it doesn't cause future headaches.
