VW Buyback for a Taco

Holly F*CK!!!!! THERE IS NO CLICK TO CHAT BUTTON!!!! HOLD TIME GREATER THAN 2 HRS, AND I'M ONLY 40 MINS IN!!!!

So trying to get my wife's 2010 TDI bought back for $14k... submitted all the paperwork like 2 weeks ago. Finally got approved today, that is all but the government registration. Yeah, that expired back in July, and I wasn't about to pay $70 to renew it, plus the $30+ to get the inspection, which is required to get your vehicle registration here in TX now.
Also went ahead and took it off my insurance back in July to save some $$$, as we just put it in the garage to sit until the settlement got approved, and we have 2 other vehicles to use.... I'm not going to insure something I'm not driving, might as well save the money.

So I uploaded the portion of the registration bill we get in the mail here in TX, that says "Keep this part for your records"... yeah, that apparently didn't work. So, now I'm on hold to try an talk to someone, and explain:
- How am I supposed to get a current registration if the vehicle wont pass emissions/inspection?
- I don't really want to have to pay for
1) Inspection
2) Vehicle insurance for like 2 weeks (also need proof for registration)
3) registration on a vehicle I'm getting ready to sell back

I have the damn title, WTF do they need registration for?!?!

AND SCREW THIS DAMN PIANO MUSIC ON HOLD!!!

 

I'm in the same boat and it's ridiculous. VW is making it hard for sure. I'm stuck at trying to upload my financial consent form. I need to find a printer. I filed my claim months ago and didn't think there would be anything else I had to do but wait for vw to contact me . Thanks to this forum i jumped on VW site this morning to see what you guys were talking about in regards to sending them your documents.

No my call is apparently not very important to you!!! Stop saying that!!!! And I don't want to call back Saturday or Sunday between the hours of 7:00 am - 11:00 pm EST. What, do they have like one person working the call center... there can't be that many people who own a VW TDI!!!!

 

They are just setting their employees up for failure, of course i'm pissed my phone almost died twice on this phone call

Mine was accepted. I used the chat once too to make sure my now expired registration would still be good. It was.

 

My proof of registration was also expired and they accepted it as a valid document.

 

So they accepted a expired registration... that's good news for me. Not sure what to give them for proof though. Here in TX it's a sticker that's on the windshield. I wonder if the county tax accessor would give me some kind of proof of registration, but since it's not current, that's doubtful. How long ago was the mystery "chat button" there, because it's long gone now.

No, in Texas they send you a renewal notice in the mail... essentially a bill. You have to have a inspection done (after which they do a print out saying you passed), and proof of insurance, and then you either mail in copies of those things or go to your local county tax office and pay the registration fee ($70.25 for my 2010 TDI), and they give you a sticker that goes in the corner of the windshield... which is your both your inspection & registration sticker, and proof of both in case you get pulled over by a cop.

I would love to call my county tax office and discuss this with them, but I'm not about to hang up after a 2 1/2 hour hold... I'm waiting these bitches out!!!

 

I'm in Texas too... I scanned a copy of the paper that the sticker is attached to when it comes in the mail. You are supposed to keep that "for your records" and this is the only time it has ever come in handy.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. That thing is long buried in a landfill somewhere I'm sure. Thus, why I'm on hold.... hummm, wonder if they'll accept a pic of the sticker? HA! Maybe if I can get the vin in the pic too.

I used tiny scanner for my docs and they accepted it. It's an app that takes a pic using your phone and then turns it to a .pdf.

 

Yeah, but you sent them in the piece of paper that the sticker came on correct? I'm wondering if they'll take just a pic/pdf of the actual sticker on the windshield, as I no long have that piece of paper. I already tried sending them in the part of the renewal notice/bill that says "keep this part for your records", and that didn't work. Of course, that was the unpaid current registration bill... but I don't know if they know that.

 

nope english speaking easy to understand American (maybe Canadian) answered my questions and gave more detail than I thought they would give
I asked about timing for the next steps and he told me a few weeks, but i'm towards the front so maybe sooner (no generic just wait or i can't say)

 

So what they told me is after your document submission has been approved then they are sent to a 3rd party source to be approved.......
and then they will send you a final offer with documents that need to be signed and notarized (and the dealership you chose should do the notary), once those are sent back to VW (all done by scaned/email) the will schedule your buyback, so towards the end on Nov or beginning of Dec.
Just what I wanted to continue making 2 car payments and insurance payments right up until Christmas
