    Very cool....

It probably can't haul or tow nearly enough....to compare it to a 'truck'

it says "Canyon". I wonder if GMC will veto that name? I agree it looks more like an SUV with a small bed.

Both of you are actually wrong, not only is it built on a truck frame but also tows about the same as our Tacoma's.

This is just a new trim level of the already existing VW Amarok. See attached thread.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/general-automotive/125031-vw-amarok-would-ya.html#post2424444

There are actually about a 1000 of these trucks sitting in the Port of Baltimore (or were sitting there) that were rumored to be going out as VW roadside service vehicles in the US.

The truck is competent. Then again, a Frontier is also competent, yet we shun them. :)

Because of the chicken tax, in order to sell the Amarok here, VW will have to open an assembly line in North America to build them. VW will also have to put in a gasoline V6 (maybe borrowed from the Toureg). These factors probably prevent the Amarok from being offered in the US for the forseeable future.

EDIT: The ratchet straps you see is what is holding the muffler off the ground until he learns to weld lol

None of the important bits in that article or the wikipedia article, other than it's a diesel (duh). I want to know about the 4wd system and suspension method, along with payload and towing capacities, before I can be bothered to give a shit.

If VW brought the truck to the US, I would wait a couple of years to see how the reliability is, then decide. Toyota is about the only engine mfr I would trust with a new engine design in its first year of production.

Definately needs to get rid of that passat looking front end.

It is admittedly a lot better looking than the Hilux. :)

VW and reliability have an on again/off again relationship.

I'm sure the US EPA regulations would kill off the TDI as well and disappointed that there wasn't much more to the article. I did find it interesting that the first mules were hilux bodies on the VW underpins... kinda cool to see what the other manufactures are doing even if it'll never come here.

Not gonna lie....it looks bad ass

And for those saying, "It's still a VW".....people were saying that about Toyota at one time too. Wake the hell up; VW was very recently the largest auto manufacturer in the entire world.

My brother-in-law in Namibia owns a VW Amarok and he loves it. It is a very competent truck, and it is actually bigger than the Tacoma.
It was built to be a truck, and not just a truck body on an existing platform. VW spent a lot of time designing and testing it.
My brother-in-law is a surveyor and he spends most of his time off road while working. He had a Hilux before the Amarok and although he loved the Hilux, he says that the Amarok will go anywhere and beyond where he took the Hilux.
