Hello to all, I recently had a rear trans seal leak issue. I replaced it without any difficulty apart from the E-brake cable sitting right below the end of the tail. After a drain & refill of the trans I took a good 30min test drive. No leaks. Pat myself on the back & move on. Nope. The next a.m there was a small puddle right below the extension housing. I've been a mechanic for over 30yrs.so before chiming in let me make clear that I used my seal puller(not a screwdriver or probably & hammer) to remove the seal. Bought the correct seal from the Stealership, installed the new seal with a seal driver after putting oil around the inside. Used my micrometer to check for even depth of seal(4 points all the same). It's not flush with the end of the tail. It's .07mm in more. That shouldn't make any difference. It could be driven in further before it makes contact, but that is not necessary for it to do it's job. Anyway I figured it may be a defective seal so I pulled it & was checking the housing for any nicks or scratches. Smooth all around, but flashed my light I there & the sleeve has a couple spots that look like it was hit with something. That has to be the cause. Everything else is fine. Now I never got into trans work except a couple thm350 rebuilds a long time ago. So before I proceed I reaching out to anyone who has dealt with this type of problem. Is the sleeve replaceable? Or do I buy another extension housing? They are spendy & finding one in the boneyard is not very likely as Tacomas aren't on the menu very often.
