Go where it’s not on fire. Maybe go up Twisp River rd. Black Pine Lk. is a nice spot. I was up there on the 4th of July.

Red Apple fire (Wenatchee) is now over 80% contained. The two fires up near Mazama seem to be getting bigger though. :(

Just checked, no surprise, burn bans are in effect across all DNR land. So I guess someone needs to bring that propane stove again?

Well ( insert a f-bomb tirade here) now what. Punt and reconvene in October? I don’t have to take “vacation time” so I’m not in a pickle. We just don’t go to work when we want time off so I’m pretty flexible if we have to postpone it. This closure is for State land not National Forest but I can read the writing on the wall and don’t want to deal with trying to figure out a way to snake up the through WABRR without crossing State land it would be a nightmare.

Last quarter is a busy time for me. So who is going to Moab in September?
Have to take a wait and see approach.

Sigh. I guess we just punt month-by-month until things are open again, or the weather gets horrible.

Honestly I think I'm going to just take my PTO and go backpacking near Mt. Baker or something.
Guess my new radio setup can continue to just collect dust. :bananadead:

I'm still game for an alternative outing the same week if anyone's down. Idaho BDR seems like it has even more fire spots than WA.

So it's just DNR land that its closed on the East side. Based on the Gaia Public Lands map, a lot of the "state" land we would pass through is WDFW land which is a separate entity from DNR. WDFW land is open to day use only so if we are only passing through we should be good.

    Section 1 - all good
Section 2 - second half after Bethel Ridge passes through DNR land (go-around needed); after that is WDFW land which is open for day use.
    upload_2021-7-21_12-14-45.jpg
    Section 3 - all good
Section 4 - two small areas crossing DNR land
    • After Cashmere
      • upload_2021-7-21_12-19-7.jpg

    • Coming down to Lake Chelan
      • upload_2021-7-21_12-20-21.jpg

Section 5 - first 2/3 of section is all good; remaining 1/3 of trail is DNR land; bypass-able if we take Hwy 20 West towards Okanogan
    upload_2021-7-21_12-25-13.jpg

Section 6 - 1st and 4th 1/4 sections of trail doable; middle half of section is DNR
    upload_2021-7-21_12-27-21.jpg

It seems like a WABDR run of Sections 1-5 could still be done. I get what you guys are saying that the national forests and WDFW might follow suit soon but I'm still gung-ho to make some type of trip happen. Maybe slow it down and do some more fishing along the way. Anyone else still interested in a trip?

Other options thrown out sound appealing as well like Yellowstone and the neighboring state BDR trails (Idaho or NV would be closest?). I've been wanting to get back to Glacier NP for a while now.

My PTO time is very flexible so postponing and rescheduling isn't out of the question. I'd just be disappointed.

    Thoughts?
