    Just bought a 2019 SR5 4x4 Access Cab w/ 5300 miles.
    Previously owned a 1998 4x4 Limited--drove it from 2007-2017 from 107kmiles to 240k miles.

Read on here that it's likely the 4th Gen will be out model year 2024 (released late 2023)
and there likely will be a hybrid option. Could this end-up being a bridge to an all-electric version? California has banned sales of new gasoline automobiles in 2035.

What would be your strategy for the next 15 years of driving? I will stick with Tacoma unless something drastic happens with the 4th Gen.

I am financed for 6 years, no penalty to payoff early. I'd like to drive it for awhile with no payment. 10 years from now is 2030, at that point is it worth waiting for 5th Gen? Or, do I trade up into the 4th Gen and accept a lower payment due to the trade?

I would like to see the 4th Gen before deciding to hold off for a 5th Gen in 2035.

You'll probably want to post this question in the 4th gen forum, or maybe the 5th gen forum... will get better traction there.

5th gen will be the first full electric, I'd wait for the 6th gen if I was you.

My initial plan will be to avoid living in California. Made it 35 years so far without having to live there, so fingers crossed for the future lol

What I'm waiting for is the refresh on the Tundra. I wouldn't mind going back to a half ton. Should be another year or so for the showcase, and then give it a year to get out the new model jitters.

    LOL you guys are funny!

If we are 3 years away from Gen 4 but I really like my new 3rd Gen with less than a year's worth of mileage, do I drive then 3rd Gen until the 5th Gen? Keep in mind I drove a 1st Gen until half way into the 3rd Gen. Also, based on reputable sources in these forums 10 years is not necessarily a fixed duration for a generation, it's more about the evolution of the technology and design. Perhaps Gen 5 is closer to 10 years out?
Most of the miles on my Gen 1 Limited were in Alaska. Drove it from the midwest to/from Alaska 3 times.
I understand it's waay out into the future...but for financing, if I'm not getting a new truck for quite awhile it frees up space to pay other bills or save.

    Read the first reply.

I wouldn't waste any time thinking about it at this point. Don't even know what the 4th gen will look like or when it will be released, much less the 5th gen.
If and when you're ready for something new, that'd be the time to start looking and asking questions. For now just enjoy what you have.
