On my first Tacoma, I had the Dunlops for a few thousand miles before I went to a set of Firestone M/Ts. Since I bought this double cab, I told myself I would be a little more conservative and wait for the Rugged Trails to completely ware down. A few thousand miles later and I can't stand them. I think I'd rather fully enjoy my truck and bump back up to the 265/75/16.

How many of you out there actually ran your stock tires for the full life?

    If not, How long?

How much did Tacoma World influence this decision?

Got 36,500 on my stock dunlops. I hate them but they're still in driving condition and I haven't had any issues.

Just changed the stock tires at 55k.. I wanted to change them sooner but I figured it would be more reasonable to get the life of the tire before upgrading to duratracs.. Almost got influenced by seeing all the good looking tires around.

I just rolled over 40,000 miles on my 7 year old dunlops. I want new tires, but I'm holding out until these give.

I'm in the same boat... I can't justify getting a new set just to get a little more height...

    Bone stock for now....
My stock dun flops have 16k on them and they won't see 20k. Told myself I would wear them out but at this rate that could be two years. I plan on keeping the stock wheels and tires and may run them in the summer drought season when there's no rain, mud or snow.

I changed my stock Dunlops at 17K. Best decision I ever made. The day I decided to change them, it was raining and I lost traction come out of a parking lot with only minimal throttle. Went with 255 KM2s and never looked back.

If you can afford it, getting rid of the stock Dungflops is the best safety and performance upgrade you can make.

I got rid of the stock rugged fails at 15,000 miles... by then the tread was so far gone i didn't trust them for the upcoming winter.

I got my lift and some other things done way before I put real tires on it. I ran my stock tires for about 28K miles. I did a lot to try and wear them down.

My stocker 245 Dunlops got me through a wicked 17" snow a month after I got the truck, but I still sold them the next spring and stepped up to a 265/75r16 tire. Best mod I've done to the truck, both performance-wise and in the looks department. Got like $300 out of the tires & steelies & never looked back.

You're Right. That's what I have told everyone that was "thinking about getting a lift" on a Tacoma. Get the tires first, and I promise you will dig the look. 265/75/16 on stock height is about perfect. Unless you really want a 6in lift.

I guess the stock tire would make that decision for you. My Bridgestones on sport wheels were awesome and went 50,000 miles. I did the eibach coils up front almost right away.

I replaced my Rugged Trails at 17,000 miles. Mostly cause I was taking a trip up north where encountering snow was a real possibility and I didn't trust the Bridgestone's.

At 20k miles on my stock rugged trails with 8/32s left and even wear. I'd like to make it to at least 30k before upgrading to duratracs.

I have the rugged trails with the O/R package. I went snowboarding today and the tires did great in the snow at low and high speeds... I'm going to wait till they go bald.

    Loud as hell URD exhaust!
I sold the stock Dunlop's after 500 miles and went to a bigger tire.

There are much better tire choices out there that won't break the bank.

Also, how can you not be influenced by TW? There are some sweet rigs around here that make you want more and more upgrades. :D
