I tell you what, it does get confusing when your new to these. I had no clue there was a difference between the Off Road and the sport. Hell, I thought they were all the same if they said TRD on the back.

If I would have done my homework prior to the purchase, I would have opted for the Sport. Im happy with my off road, and who knows, that locker may come in handy some day. If not, my son turns 16 in a few years, im sure he will use that locker.

Yes it is a little confusing but the clouds are parting thanks to way to much internet research and the help from folks here. I found a used 08 with the offroad package but hell it was more than a fully loaded 2010 so that is out.

I am just on stand by right now waiting for the dealer who said they had a trd or in black on the lot. If they have one I may just go ahead and grab it but if not or we cant agree on price then the the trd sport with the rear locker installed is going to probably be the way to go. The day is young though... Appreciate all the feedback!

The TRD Sport doesn't come with a locker. Is this something the dealer installed after taking delivery? Its not an option you can order from what I can gather.

He told me it had a rear locker in it but he doesn't sound like he really knows about that stuff since he told me hill assist and A-TRAc were only offered in the FJ and the 4-runner.

When I sent him the info from toyota.com he apologized and said he had never seen those options on a tacoma. The weird thing is he sent me a quote for a trd offroad and it clearly listed those as options (but it was in red)

This is why I do all this via email and blackberry. I refuse to go down to a delaership and spend all day BS'ing around.

Which dealer (s) are you working with?

When I was looking Toyota Carlsbad and Toyota Chula Vista were playing ball. All the others were giving me the run around.

Primarily Toyota Carlsbad. The guy has been pretty quick to respond and is upfront about pricing and options I honestly think he just really isnt all that knowledgable.

Mossy is the one that told me before (when I bought my jeep used) they had what I wanted in stock and then when I went down there the vehicle was not there. His response was pretty vague it said " Yes we have that vehicle in stock when can you test drive it." I responded back with email the spec sheet and a price quote I dont need to test drive it. So far no response.

I would go with the sport, and just add the locker to the front. The rear has an LSD so no need to mess with it. You can use the extra funds for a bumper or something.

Well, looks like both dealerships have the TRD OR with the JBL audio BUT now its down to color. Red or brown and I wont take either.

I'm exhausted and have not even left the house today haha

    Too few to list.
How far are you willing to drive? I know that the person that bought my truck was from San Diego and drove to Long Beach to get it.

Try Longo, Crown, or Clairemont. Those are huge dealerships.

Keep looking. When I bought my 09 in the exact configuration that I wanted, only 2 existed in SoCal.

Get what YOU want.....If you have to wait you will Likely be close enough to a 2012 to get a better price. Or just find something low mileage and clean second hand and save a bundle of cash for mods.

Rear locker and A-TRAC seem to be very rare around here.

There are a few local but not in the color I want. This guy offered me 750 under invoice to take the brown one but he will give me what I want at invoice so if I gotta wait day or two thats ok I did a lot of research on the price prior to contacting dealers and he is actually giving it to me for less than what I was prepared to pay.
