Lucky you, I had a rock hit mine the second day of ownership by a guy weedwacking on the road.
Cost me $50 to get it fixed and hopefully it won't run since I have a $500 deductible.
But on the positive side, they did a real good job and I can't hardly see it.

On my policy, dropping the comprehensive (i.e. "other than collision") deductible from $1000 to $100 added like $3/month to my premiums. Given how common windshield cracks are, it's a no-brainer.

I have progressive and they cover cracks, no additional premium increase, Just have to declare for refund.
But if the windshield goes, it's $500 deductible. I've only had to replace one windshield on about a dozen vehicles. It was my old faithful 4runner I traded, cost me $225. So far I'm winning.

When do you anticipate orders can be placed for the 2017 model?

Nothing will change for 2017. It will not get height adjustable seats because we have seen that it has 4 way adjustable driver seat in the 2017 TRD Pro

Exactly my thought in just ordering a 2016. The fact is the engine is just another variant of the same family of V6 (GR) used in pretty much all Toyota / Lexus models in recent years, with varying top end components that Toyota sold millions of already.

The things I'm weary about are any first year assembly issues like under-filled tranny or loose u bolts, etc, but those I can check and address.

Don't bother. People still believe the old wives' tale that 1st year of a redesign is bad. But don't worry, year 2 they've definitely incorporated all those lessons learned!

I work in tech and though not apples to apples, the same rules applies. The 1st model of a new gen is usually a trial period with plenty of kinks to work out. The 2nd model is a more polished version after learning from the issues of the 1st. Then by the 3rd model it's plenty stable and additional features are added. So on and so forth.

I'm hoping with me ordering my truck in mid Dec., any assembly issues had been ironed out. Built on a Saturday if that matters.

Considering selling my 2016 Subaru Outback for a 2017 Tacoma OR manual when it becomes available or a used 2nd gen. Talk me into it (or out of it)...

You mean six speed manual. Both transmissions are 6 speed. Easy mistake to make though as the gen 2 only had a 5 speed auto and 6 speed manual. That being said, I feel your pain. It should be relatively easy for Toyota to offer the DCLB with a manual.

They didn't really start applying fixes to 2nd gen until 2007.
    Just sayin...
