Replacing the muffler on my 2001 DC 4x4. If all I need is from the muffler back, can I just cut it off and maintain same intermediate pipe and slide and clamp the new muffler on?

    you should be able to.

The muffler tail pipe slides on your intermediate pipe.

Pro tip: drill a drain hole at the lowest point of the muffler to slow down corrosion. Basic Walker mufflers can burn up or rot out after just a couple of years.

Do you prefer another brand over Walker? Something still economical?

^Looking on Rock Auto, there are a few brands including Walker offering aluminized steel. There's also a Walker stainless muffler for a bit more money. That one should last a reasonable time.

Where the truck lives effects things as well.

My mufflers last where it fails first is where the tail pipe is welded to the muffler.

It is just easier for me to just replace the complete Muffler and Tail pipe

Faster as well in my case.

    Good Luck!

Exactly what I plan on doing, cut everything off from the muffler back including the muffler and put all new on.

Any reason to use something like exhaust tape in addition to clamps?
