I’m posting this not as a “got ya” or “ I’m right you’re wrong” .......it’s just something I remembered from many years ago and it might interest someone if you can still find it.

Consumer Reports did a test on a number of name brand motor oils ( conventional not synthetic) in N.Y.C taxis, they ran them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, changing the oil equally. I forget for how long but it simulated many years of normal driving. They tore down the engines and measured the wear.

The bottom line......no difference. So they didn’t even publish the brands.
    ( that was then......maybe now it’s different????)

Changed to synthetic in my 1st gen at 168k miles. Saw no difference in anything. Change whenever you want. Drove it another 41k miles before trading it in on the 2nd gen. No issues at that time either.

I changed to synthetic on my 3RZ at 175k miles and my front crank seal, oil pan, and rear main seal started leaking. Granted this was probably bound to happen at 20 years old, but the synthetic oil made it apparent. I had the front crank seal and oil pan fixed, but the rear main requires pulling the transmission. I plan on switching to high mileage synthetic to see if that slows the leak, and if that doesn't then I'll look at a high mileage synthetic blend.

I changed mine at 196K to Rotella gas truck synthetic, no problems.

Why not? - Vehicle manufactures do it all the time.

Are you saying an engine is so worn in on one type of very specific oil (which the oil makers change the make up of very often) it must stay with that viscosity forever?

The old school way of reducing oil consumption was bumping up to the thick stuff

Be a great time to replace the pump considering the tank will already be off.

Your talking about a fuel pump pressure gauge, most vehicles have a test point in the fuel line (in the engine compartment). If your truck is running and starting well the pump is probably good.

Your pump will probably last another 100,000 that’s true. You’re only replacing it because you’ve got the tank down and you want peace of mind......it’s all a gamble.

( I worked in an Auto Supply Store, you’d me amazed how many new replacement pumps fail prematurely )
