Hey! New to Tacoma world! Recently bought a 2015 Tacoma TRD off road 4x4, a girls dream truck! Unfortunately this girl doesn't know enough about leveling/lift kits and tires. Currently have stock wheels and P265/70R/17. I know I want to raise it a few inches and add some bigger tires with all black wheels... but I prob should know more before I go into a shop and get ripped off. Any advice and/or references to learn more is much appreciated!
Please use layman's terms. Newbie here. :)

First, welcome to the club. As for a lift or leveling kit, there are a few questions. How often are you going to be going off road? If your planning on being out every weekend, your going to want a good kit that can take some abuse. If it's just for show on the pavement then a puck is cheep and will level the truck out. What type of off road (general logging roads or Rubicon Trail)? What is you budget? Pucks are a couple of hundred dollars, every thing else goes up from there. Old Man Emu makes a good general lift kit for not a lot of money. I think they start around $800 or so, depending on add a leafs in the rear or if you go with a new leaf pack. Keep in mind, if you go over a 3" lift, your going to need new upper control arms to get your alignment back in speck. A good person to talk to is Marie at @HeadStrong Off-Road. She knows a lot more about lifts then me and should get you in the right direction. Tiers have basically the same questions. If you want to go serious off road, your probably going to want a good mud tier. Keep in mind, mud tiers look cool on a truck but that's about it. In my humble opinion, if you don't need mud tiers or your going to be mostly on pavement then stick to a good all terrain. Mud tiers are noisy, decrease gas mileage, usually don't last as long and perform worse on pavement then most tiers. That being said, I am running Cooper MTP mud tiers, but the truck sees muddy roads all week due to my job. This got long winded, but I hope this helps.

Sounds like a level kit is better option instead of lift for me. 2.5 level kit was what i had in mind but was not sure of other options.I will be driving daily on pavement and as far as off road trails, camping, fishing, Colorado to Arizona weather conditions.. nothing extreme. All terrain tire would be suitable then it sounds like.
Bare with me on the next questions :)
Does the level kit raise only the front? Or does the back of the truck have adjustments too?
And tire sizes once lifted a few inches... there are so many types of tires. Where do I start? Also, some tires on trucks sit out further rather than flush with wheel wells, why?

A level kit will only lift the front. I actually have one I took off of mine that I can hook you up with for cheap

A leveling kit only raises the front to bring it up to the rear. The tiers sticking out further is due to back spacing on the aftermarket wheels. I know a little about this, but not much and don't want to point you in the wrong direction. BFG all terrain tiers are good and a lot, and I mean a lot of guys run them. Toyo Tiers, Cooper Tiers and General Tiers also have good all terrain tiers. I have used Toyo tiers quite a few times, and really like them.

If you're looking to widen the stance of your tires it's either run spacers or upgrade wheels with less backspace.

I put a motofab kit, 3 in front, 2 in back. Installed Friday. Yesterday I put nitto TG2 285/70/17 on moto metal MO970 with -12 offset. Removed front mud flaps Only rubbed the little "mudflap" in front of the tire, so I removed those as well

May not be what others suggest, but I love it. Feels like a new truck

Didn't want to start a new thread because I think I have the same goals. 99% commuting to work and maybe 1% offroad, maybe. Honestly this is mainly for looks but don't won't to mess up my smooth comfortable ride. Of course cost is also an issue. I have a 2013 AC TRD OR with BF Goodrich AT KO2 265/75/16s. I just want a mild lift but nothing that will mess up my truck or not be able to get a good alignment.
Will this work? Front 2.5" spacers & rear 2" AAL.
