^^ Sig Sauer P220 9mm. I am not familiar with this specific model, but I have Sig P226 (9mm) that was made in West Germany- before I was born. My father carried it for 25 years as a cop and gave it to me. I dont carry it (I opted for a .40cal) but I would trust it with my life.

24 years old and thousands of rounds through it and not one single part has been replaced/repaired...

    New truck....so nothing yet
As far as stopping power the 9mm +P+ has as great track record in FBI shootings. but there is the school of thought that the ONLY real defensive calibers start with "4"

I third the recommendation for a CZ, however since you are left handed I would look at the CZ85b. This is an ambidextrous gun. I own the 85b and a Tanfoglio witness classic(copy of the CZ75). I am a big fan of a metal gun over polymer.

Get the new Gtul. It makes disassembling and cleaning the magazines much easier.

THIS. I have a $1000 Browning Hi-Power in 9mm. It really feels like an extension of my hand and shoots like a dream. It's proven itself over many years and I'm no gunsmith but it seems to of high quality.

I've fired the XD many times and agree that it fits my hand well and is easy to keep on target. That may be my next firearm if I don't get lured away by the M&P (which I've not fired).

Also couldn't agree more - go to the range and shoot them all until you get a good feel! Unfortunately, now I'm really starting to get gun fever and hoping it doesn't derail my plans for suspension mods and armor this summer.

As been said: Try them all out for your self first!:evil:

SIG's are very good but pricey....
I recommend the Ruger SR9c a great compact 9mm that comes with 10rd mags and can use the 17rd ones also. It is very easy to EDC and it is very accurate. Price is under $600 and at times under $500.

Try one out and you'll like it, I do!:infantry:
    It's also American Made. :oldglory:

I own an springfield xdm in 9mm, and it's a great pistol. It might be a little more than $600 but they provide you will all of the accessories you need. Just my .02 cents.

Another vote for SR9c, especially for the 10 round and 17 round options that come straight from the factory.

For any gun you need to get your hands on it first to make sure it fits. My test is to pick a spot on the wall, close my eyes then raise the gun and attempt to aim it at that spot with eyes still closed. If I'm real close then I know the ergonomics of the gun work for me. With the SR9, SR9c and XD I was so close to the spot I'd picked it's almost like I'd aimed with my eyes open. Not so much for the Glock 17/19. but that's my hand and not yours so go try them out!

fn fnp not the fx thing, or glock 19 is always a solid gun for a reasonable price, i could also speak to the hk usp 9mm i owned a compact for years and it was and in my opinion is some of the best battle tupperware you can spend money on. i'm sure there are others see what fits in your hand and if you get a chance go to a range that rents them and shoot them. i have had a great experience with all of the guns mentioned in the 9mm cartridge. good luck and let us know what you choose:)

i would say if your on a budget think of the role you will be using the piece for. money is tight all around man so imho the glock 19 is a ringer its just a good gun i have owned two 19's one gen3 and one gen 4 and they are both phenomenal weapons.

Find a good local gun shop that will let you try different guns. I tried an XD, SR9, M&P, a 1911 and the Glock 17. I have big paws and I just liked the feel of the Glock over the others.
