I actually HATE my plastic Shop-Vac. It's a POS, and not that old (OK maybe 8 years but not used that much). It really does SUCK and not in a good way. I can grab any three vacuums from the house and they suck better.

What vacuums for the shop pull hard and while never quiet are not so damned loud??

Shop-Vac was bought by a Chinese consortium just recently, but they were terrible before IMHO.

My Sears Craftsman is still suckin’ strong after all these years. I don’t get the new filter in the Mail anymore since Sears has been gone for years now but it did say “lifetime supply”. Thought that applied to the machine rather than the Co.

It’s hard to compare because the only other vacuum we have is a Miele geared towards being very quiet. I don’t feel it’s overly loud but I’m not sure it’ll have the same motor since mine is only 6 gallons in believe. I haven’t used a shop vac brand one but I feel it has a good amount of sucking power. I have made it a point to let it dry before putting it away to avoid any rust which was my only concern

We abuse the smaller Rigid ones at work and they hold up well.

I use the Rigid brand from HD. It's amazingly less noisy than the previous Shop Vac I had.

Rigid from Home Depot has worked well for me. Filters are relatively cheap and readily available.

Biggest Rigid vac if on a budget or Festool CT36 if money doesn't matter

I like my shop vac. I had a Briggs and Stratton I really liked as well, but it was impossible to find parts or replacement filters for. My brother ended up keeping it after I let him borrow it to clean up after a flood. I got the Shop Vac because I knew I could find parts for it.

I like the Rigid as you can switch the hose to the exhaust side and blow up air mattresses right quick!

I just picked up this one this past weekend and they were out of this diffuser but I have plans on picking one up when they show back up in stock. My little 6 Gal Ridgid couldn't keep up with the saw dust and I got tired of cleaning the filter all the time so Ill build myself a rolling dust collection cart using one of those cyclone separators. Out of the box, it's quieter than my old one even though the motor is bigger. I'll blame it on the newness.
