Want a Sirius-based signal, NOT XM-based

    Hey y'all -

Apologize for posting new thread if this has been covered before but I couldn't find anything here on this issue after trying all kinds of different key word searches.

Have a 2014 Tacoma. Recently replaced the stock non-JBL HU with a Pioneer HU and the SiriusXM SXV300V1 tuner.

One reason for doing this was because the satellite reception was horrible with stock HU.

But, after all was installed, still having the dropped signal problem. Never had this issue with aftermarket satellite radios I've had before that were installed outside the dashboard.

After a A LOT of calls to SiriusXM and Crutchfield and internet searches, I learned that the problem is that most aftermarket tuners are XM-based (and, therefore, use an XM signal) and separate SiriusXM radios (those that are not integrated into the dash) use a Sirius-based signal.

Why is this a big deal? Sirius signal-based radios get better reception b/c they use three satellites whereas XM-based units use two satellites. So, that explains why the stock HU and SXV300 tuner reception stinks b/c they're XM-based.

(Also learned that the IDs of Sirius signal-based tuners are all numbers and XM IDs are a mix of letters and numbers. So that would explain why the signal keeps dropping with the SXV300 tuner installed b/c its ID # is a mix of letters and numbers = XM-based = dropped signal issues.)

So, my question is ... is there any way to get a Sirius-based signal for my Tacoma that is integrated into the dash? I really really REALLY don't want to have to use my old outside-the-dash receiver. I would love everything to be behind the dash for a clean look.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    TIA!

Don't waste your time, you won't have any better luck with a Sirius tuner. I had one and the bad signal follows them as well. All was good until the merger then if started having reception issues. I was a satellite subscriber since 2004 but couldn't deal with the loss of signal any more so ended up dropping it. Their crazy rise in prices and increased compression of the music didn't help. It is frustrating not hearing half the songs your listening to. I have many country roads where I live and mine wouldn't work at all for minutes at a time if I was driving a tree covered road.
Good luck with XM customer service, you won't get anywhere with them.

What's up brother, fantastic streaming site!! Just tried on my Droid and my IPad. I do the same as you with my music as far as HD sub channels and music on an iPod or thumb drive. I haven't experimented with WAV yet though. What's the benefit, less compression than MP3? If so what's the difference in file size? I've always wanted to use FLAC,but I haven't figured a way to make that work yet. Never looked but pretty sure my Excelon 9990 supports WAV.

    Thanks for your replies guys!

My experience with Sirius signal-based radios has been different. I'm in Massachusetts about 50 miles west of Boston and the signal is rock solid if it's not from XM-based satellites.

For the heck of it, I temporarily installed my old Sirius signal-based radio that I had in my Subaru into the Taco and, as expected, the signal didn't drop out where the XM signal does (I even used the same antenna for both installations).

Looks like I'm SOL for trying to get a Sirius signal-based in-dash solution.

Just odd because my wife drives a 2010 Kia Forte and that OEM HU is a Sirius signal-based tuner that rarely loses the signal (long tunnels will drop it but that's to to expected).

I just bought a 64GB and haven't listened to the radio in a LONG time. All my music library from my computer fits it. All my music from my computer at the touch of my screen always available.

I installed an aftermarket kenwood and was thinking about installing the SiriusXM SXV300V1 tuner because I want a cleaner look. I hardly ever loose reception with my sirius add on tuner were I do with my xm in my other vehicles. I thought it was the antenna, its good to know that its because one is sirius and my others are xm. Now I don't know if I want the SiriusXM SXV300V1 tuner.
