^^^ Again order what you want. Did you look at any other brands other then remingtons? I used to be a huge fan of theres but not so much anymore. A sticky bolt from the factory is not a good way to start out. Take a look around at other brands in that price range you may be suprised at what you find.

Yeah Forster! I'm looking at a rifle too. Let's get some gear and do some hunting!! I'm looking at 270 or 30.06 myself. I already have a Browning BAR in .338 WinMag so I've got the large caliber covered. You should come by sometime and try out the .338 WinMag - or my AR-15 if you're interested in .223.

I was personally looking at Savage or Remington. My brother-in-law who knows his guns highly recommended the Tikka, but likes the Savage with Accutrigger as well. I'll be dragging it through the woods so I don't want something that will bring tears to my eyes when it gets scratched.

I was looking at the savage as well. I figured I will just go with the 30.06 770 for now then upgrade to something else later when I know I need it. I was talking to Alan about going hunting sometime too. We can get a tacoma/hunting meet going haha.

+1 to the Savage 30.06. I've had one for years now and love it. More than adequate for all game in North America and easy to get ammo for. A big plus for me is they had the Left Hand option so I could finally own a gun with the bolt on the "correct" side ;).

Savage make great guns, can't go wrong there. I don't really think 30/06 is a good first rifle caliber but that's just my opinion.

True, not my first "rodeo" though :). And the OP did say he was considering a 30.06, so that's what I was offering my opinion on.

I'm gonna head down to wholesale sports today and see what they have. Here are my choices that I plan on choosing from
    -Remington 770
    -Savage Axis
    -Mossberg 100 ATR

Not sure what caliber yet. Depends what they have. Either 30.06 or maybe 270

Cabelas wanted over $100 more just to go from black synthetic to the realtree camo edition. No thanks.

    Well shoot, 270 it is!

Guess what I just bought at wholesale sports? A Savage Axis 270 with a bushnell scope!

Excellent congrats and welcome to the savage family. When you are ready for your next one look at a savage with the accu-trigger its the sweetest factory trigger I have ever had the pleasure of using.

That's what I'm considering. .270 Savage with Accutrigger and stainless barrel.

Congrats Forster! Let's go shooting/hunting sometime.

I need to hurry up and save $$ to get tires so I can get working again on the firearm collection which is sorely in need of some TLC.

Yeah when I bought this one I totally forgot about the accutrigger  if I would have remembered I would have tried to see if they had one with it. Oh well, I have done a bunch of research on how to make the trigger lighter so I will probably try that.

Now I wanna take it shooting. I am headed over to Ellensburg tomorrow

Next purchase, probably a Mosin Nagant. They are sweet :D

careful with the trigger job. You are better off having a quality gun smith lighten it up for you. At least at this point in the game. There are some differences between the axis and some of the other savage rifles but I think you will enjoy the .270 quite a bit especially for the price tag. The accutrigger adds a healthy bump in the price of the gun but its worth it.

Ohhh look what you did now I want to go order the savage .243 with accutrigger and wood stock I've wanted for the last year.

    Good luck shoot straight.

I could be wrong but I don't think you can put the accutrigger on the Axis. Regardless, I still think you made a nice purchase. Congrats.

Yes he is. If I would have remembered, I would have looked at a different model with accutrigger. But the trigger isn't that big of a deal to me. First rifle and it shoots fine for my liking. I'm gonna go blow through a box or two of ammo this weekend.
