Hi yall, you guys probably get this a lot but here goes. I have an 07 4wd with a 3” toytec lift and 33’s. I have spc adjustable ucas. I do some overlanding/crawling but i just moved to arizona and want to get into more high speed offroading. I dont want to get into anything super competitive but i want to be able to have some fun on the weekends in the desert. What sort of upgrades do you guys suggest for this. Keep in mind i have a part time job and am a college student so i do not have a ton of money. I just want to make it able to handle at higher speeds offroad without breaking something everytime i try. Thank you!

My vote is enjoy the beauty of the area with your current set up and save the Speed Racer gig for later.

This. You’re going to have to have some kind of long travel suspension to up the speed factor, Total Chaos, AllPro, there’s a bunch of outfits ready to get your suspension set up for jumps and whoops.
But, speed costs money, the faster you want to go, the more expensive it is.

OP not to be discouraging about your ambitions but there is some reality to it about the costs and what it actually takes. If you have the place, means, and skills there is no harm in learning and doing some of the needed upgrades yourself. Also in that area there is a lot of good slow speed trails that have some good views and can be just as fun. You can do this but you gotta be prepared to put in the work and $$$$ to be able to do it.

about $5k in suspension allows me to do 70mph through some rough shit.

I'm in Chandler and plan on hitting the desert up next weekend if you wanna see what $5k gets you.

Looking around, it seems the most cost effective way to get into it is to find someone else's ranger project on race dezert, etc and drive the tires off it and spare the taco. Few decent trucks for sale I have come across for what you'd prob put into a taco just to get it "good enough". Then you have a DD to schlep your sorry butt to work on Monday when you fold your dune truck in half

I’ve done quite a bit of research on this myself, and there is no cheap route unfortunately. I don’t think a full long travel kit is absolutely necessary. But a beefier mid travel works well enough for a weekend warrior. Definitely need 2.5” or larger shocks. Sua conversion would definitely go a long way. Also the bump stops as mentioned above help a ton!
