I have a dumb phone through ATT right now and I really want to upgrade to an andriod smart phone. Im not eligible for a phone upgrade through ATT for a while.

Is there any way to get a new phone without paying full retail?

Open a new line, take a family members upgrade, ebay, craigslist. Other than that you're going to stuck with it for awhile. I'd check to see if any family members on the plan are due for an upgrade soon or not. You can upgrade 30 days before the actual upgrade date. I got my sisters upgrade and did the transaction 38 days before it said I could. Anything over 30 days a manager has to approve though.

    The better coast
Craigslist is the way to go I buy and sell phones all the time easy money and if you dont want to upgrade go there, but check eBay prices first to you don't get ripped of and if the phone comes with the box and has the same IMEI then thats extra protection that it is not stolen

    Be patient pad wan,

I too refused to pay full price. As such, I scoured the web, called local Verizon stealer and walked into store frequently looking for special promo's. Eventially I scored two...yes, 2 new Samsung Fascinates for free...yes FREE. :)

Ended up finding a bad promo that i held them to. In all, 8 months of patience was worth it.

Only way to not pay full retail is through craigslist or another auction site.

not sure about your coverage there, but i bought the optimus v and pay $25/mo with no contract with virgin mobile. i love it so far and have no intention (until circumstances change) of going back to an expensive, contract type plan.

I was about a month shy of fulfilling my Verizon contract. They honored it in full. I learned that being polite but persistent will in time earn you certain privledges.

Sad to say, being that far out does may screw you. However, is that 18 months or two years? I know they will often work within the 18-24 month window. Talk to several different sales agent and learn the 'inside scoop' of what they can and can not do for you. Go to forums and read up on what others have done. Then, stake out a good deal for the phone you want before renegotiating.

    Hope this helps!
