This. It would be a damn shame for the OP to pass up on a 2012 all because of a potential minor problem mentioned in this thread by those who don't even own a 2012. The smog pump failing hasn't happened to me either FWIW. And it's a cheap fix if and when it does.

Good luck in your quest OP. I would be searching for a 2015 TRD Pro if I were in your position, then working my way down the 2nd gen lineage based on the trim and package.

Edit: whichever truck you purchase, do yourself a huge favor and replace the stock leaf pack with Dakars or Deavers for all the hauling you plan to do. The stock leaf pack is an absolute joke.

Calm down, and if your average Joe that doesn't browse forums it is an expensive fix.

    That's all let's move along.

the post I quoted you state the best years are 2009-2011 and 2013-2015. Why exactly are the 2009-2010 better than a 2012?

I'm calm there chief. Just making others aware that 2012's are still a solid year to be had if a good one comes along.

2010's are part of the frame rust recall so why are the 2010's better than the 2012 in your opinion? :boink:

Nevermind, it appears that you have figured it out </thread>

Damn that 7.3 is one of the best motors ford ever made. Wish you could keep it and still step into a new to you tacoma. Welcome. You won’t be disappointed either way. There’s some solid advice here. Guess I’m just blowing hot air.

They moved it up too '10's then, interesting they changed frame manufacturer's in 10 to fix the frame problem...looks like I'm next then you.
I personally think '11 is the best year...only year with a grill unique to it's year plus I own one.

All honesty 2013 is the best year to own a tacoma, no wait maybe a 2014 is....now that I think about it a 2015 is. Ya that sounds right.

You guys are cracking me up with "all this best yr biz". Heres my two cents.
I drove a 93 for 24.8 yrs. I have been researching for the last 3 yrs which yr or gen to purchase. My criteria was narrowed down to 2012-2015. Now my wallet would lead me to 12-13 actually but was ready to pony up $$ for a clean 14-15.

My main conditions were a local one owner, clean carfax, dmv search, whatever you look at, and service records at a Toyota dealer. Next was Barcelona red and tan interior.

Well that vehicle showed up the first of this month and it just happened to be a 2012. If it was a 13,14,15 I would have pulled the trigger.

OP do your homework and be patient, the good used tacoma's are out there.

    You should drive both 1st gen 3.4 auto/stick and then 2nd gen 4.0 auto/stick.

There are advantages/disadvantages to both gens.
It seems that 3rd gens haven't worked out all the bugs quite yet...

My 2012 had no air pump issues(175,000 km's) and had a back up cam, although after lifting it started the dreaded road noise issue. Sadly, she has parted ways with the help of a Lexus driven by an individual that couldn't keep their vehicle on their side of the road.:censored:

For all my trips, she never left me stranded or disappointed.
