School loans are the last thing you pay, and pay the absolute minimum. Take forever in paying them. They don't affect your credit, and when you miss a payment they don't harass you. Seriously. Pay minimum and leave for last

Uh, false. They are listed on your credit report like any other loan. Not paying will affect you negatively in terms of credit score and the ability to borrow in the future. Don't pay for too long and the feds will garnish your wages. This might be the single worst piece of financial advice I have ever seen. Are you the H&R Block guy? Pay off your debt and then buy toys...

I'd say pay them accordingly, and yes they are on your credit, count towards delinquent payments, can't be included in a bankruptcy, subject to garnishment, etc., but most have a low interest rate and the next big bubble/mortgage crisis is gonna be student loan debt. Millions of government backed loans that hundreds of thousands can't afford to pay back. I wouldn't rush to pay them off over investing, a house, having some fun in life, just because I bet some major legislation benefiting those with student loan debt or worse case scenario status quo is coming in the future.

Agreed, but OP stated he had a 'little bit' of student loan debt to pay off prior to new purchases. I worked in the banking industry, in a loan origination area, and am baffled by the ignorance. There is a student loan bubble, but like the housing crisis, who ended up suffering? Not the government or the greedy banks shorting their crap loans.

True. Agreed if its a few thousand pay it off. If its a decent amount I wouldnt make it a priority, but wouldnt ignore it either. Apologize didnt read the whole thing. And yep capitalism corrupted our healthcare, our food, our housing and now our education, and before someone jumps down my throat I am not a socialist or card carrying democrat. Libertarian / Conservative.

I understand that student loans have workarounds for those that need to skip payments (deferments/forbearances), but you have to apply for those. As far as prioritizing I agree that if you acquire one of the above or consolidate into a longer term that you can push it off. Unfortunately, "land of the free" doesn't mean debt free... 'Murica! I definitely Get where you are coming from politically speaking. How antiquated is having a president? Shouldn't we have a forum dedicated to shaping policy and planning wall building? Sorry to OP, pay your bills. :threadjacked:

All a front, there's a handful over people that pull the strings (president, congress, big business, etc.). Its terribly depressing when you think about it, but until people can open their eyes outside of their crap, consumption and what they think is a "ideal life" we will continue down this road of destruction to our environment, society, culture, morales, government, etc. End rant!

I never said don't pay them, i said pay the absolute minimum. You can get deferments and ways around making payments that do not affected your credit. There's no benefit in paying them off sooner than later
