Hey all, I just purchased a new Tacoma TRD Sport and do not like the color matched fenders. I know I'm not the only one that prefers OR fender flares so I'd like to hear what others have done to get black fenders.
They seem stupid expensive to buy from the dealer so I was thinking paint. Just want to hear other's thoughts. Thanks everyone!

I posted this exact message two years ago when I bought my silver 2019 Sport. And what I got was: buy someone else's used for cheaper; vinyl wrap them yourself; take them off and spray paint them; live with it.

Watching to see if you get any other useful responses...

    EDIT: welcome to TW forums!

    Welcome to TW.

Take em off & paint or derp them, if you're a DIY kinda guy.

Ideally I’d get used ones, however I can’t find any on buy/sell sites so paint might be the way to go.

They are hard to find locally. I would get some. I like the black smooth style no rivets.
Such an awkward package to ship that it costs so much, so I’m fenderless haha.

There’s lots of videos of spray painting matte black, which I may end up doing. I wonder if anyone has done this and how close it looks to stock OR fenders. I haven’t even taken delivery yet I just know I need those fenders black lol.

    Oh look, another mod....
How funny. When I bought my TRD OR 18 months ago, I didn't like the look of the black flares, so I had them painted! The dealership did it for me and I got a good price on it.

OP is on the right track…

post a trade - surely someone will go for it…

The body colored flares do make these trucks look ‘bland’. They need the contrast to break things up for the eye. - It is just too much of the same color otherwise.

The sports always look like a 2 year old colored them… all one single color all over!

Just my opinion - at least they have skewps.

I have the black Rough Country fender flares on mine, they’re only about 2 months old now. When I pull the trigger on the long travel suspension and fiberglass fenders I’d be more than happy to give you mine since they will simply be a paperweight at that point.

I like the looks better with the black contrast, they make my Quicksand stand out more. I think the black looks just as good on the blue, but to each their own..!!

I havent done it, but you should be able to derp them right on the truck. No need to remove. Just fully mask off the area and as you peel, should break right off at the flare. In my experience with dip, in order to get a "clean" peel, you need heavy coating, like 6-7 coats. Which is also a must if you need to peel and redo in the future.
I considered this, but as of now, I prefer the body colored flares. Its alot of green for sure, but I like green so...:D
