Could also buy a cheap frequency counter on Amazon and “sniff” out the frequencies those radios are using. Got one here at the house and works great to figure that sort of info out. Think I paid $15 for it.

Had a little bit of time last night and added a rtl-sdr to the android tablet (amazon fire) for the truck. Now I can scan from 1hz to 1.4ghz. The hardware was super cheap and the software even cheaper. Think I paid less than $30 for the whole setup. I’ll post a pic later with the waterfall going.

Curious, is that a Radio Shack antenna??? If so, would you know where I can get that exact antenna? I've looked pretty damn hard and for the life of me cannot find one??? I used to have one and RS no longer exists!!!

Btw, that is a sweet setup for about $30???:fistbump::bowdown:

Lol yup it is a radio shack antenna from back in the day. As for where to locate it nowadays, eBay maybe? Then again, I may go to a mag mount on the truck at which point I won’t need this particular antenna and we can talk ;-)

As for the rtl-sdr, yeah about $30. Got the dongle on Amazon.

NooElec NESDR Mini USB RTL-SDR & ADS-B Receiver Set, RTL2832U & R820T Tuner, MCX Input. Low-Cost Software Defined Radio Compatible with Many SDR Software Packages. R820T Tuner & ESD-Safe Antenna Input https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009U7WZCA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4MM1BbMXP106S

The “mount” is an L-bracket from Home Depot for less than 2 bucks. As for the software, typically free (sdrtouch, rf analyzer, wavesink, and QuestaSDR). However, I purchased most in-app purchases for more functions. Also, threw on air-DTV so I can receive OTA digital tv into the tablet. When everything was said and done it was right about $30. The tablet, antenna mcx to bnc adapter, and bnc antenna I had from another project that was fully paid for already. For reference though:

    Mcx to bnc:

    As for the scanner antenna:

    You’re welcome^ :)

Cool beans man... thank YOU for that link!!!:fistbump:

I actually had 2x of them. One of them I broke on accident while "moving"... and man I was pretty irritated when that happened. The 2nd one got stolen when my truck was broken into!!! I bought mine for roughly $25 or so. I liked them because of their wide TX or was it the RX range???... from what I remember about the specs? Anyways, it's been so long now I don't even remember what the actual specs were other than when I first had them.

Anyways, thanks again for that link and I'm interested in getting a similar setup now.

    My pleasure. Here to help.

Been looking at all sorts of radio stuff all weekend and working on projects. Hopefully over the next month I hope to score a Dstar radio to add into the collection.
