I am looking into doing a warm air intake for my TRD

What are the most common warm air intakes, and does anyone have personal experience with one that they can describe the difference they saw in their truck

Or if someone has cold air intake, I know they'd see power gain but did they get any mileage gain?

I'm still stuck between the two, practical or power

K&n is only ok if you are not off roading.

I still use stock. Because cold/warm intake doesn't do shit.

I've never been a fan of K&N but they seem nice, they don't have charts on performance though

OP I'll try to help you, but I guess I don't understand your question... Are you looking for an open filter intake in the engine bay? If so, why?

Warm air intakes allow for better gas mileage, which is what I'm looking for

I'm trying to find an intake (from what I read warm is the best) to increase mpg and good for mountain towns (multiple elements)

"Theoretically" (I'm saying that cause the cold air intake has been proven wrong but not the warm) the warm air, aka short ram, allows warmer less dense air into the truck. Seeing it's less dense, the fuel ratio goes down, which means your technically gonna lose power and gain gas mileage because you're using less fuel to do the same work. But compared to a stock intake, it's all around better so you'll make power gains but very minimum, and better gas mileage. Again that's what ratio and fuel charts show, whether you truly see and feel a difference in the truck is unknown haha I haven't purchased one yet

I know which of what you speak OP. Warmer intake air charges also reduce emissions.

    Edited***
I feel like a broken record, buuuuuuut - there are power gains validated by some aftermarket CAI's on these engines.... links are in my Sig.

Haha holy shit I guess I see what you are saying, but that difference is miniscule at best. Heat soak is also a real thing. If your engine continually takes on too much heat you are going to lose power that way. If you are a nearly stock truck, keep the stock intake and be happy with it.

Let's say this theory works... With a cereal box like aerodynamics of the Tacoma at play, you might get 1 mpg on the highway and the truck will be nice and hot in the city. Buying even a cheap intake will cost you at least $200. It will take a LONG TIME to recoup that cost. Just as an fyi as well, K&N intakes have been dyno proven to decrease power on these trucks.

Hahaha it's all about your air and fuel ratio! That's all air intakes do, either use more gas or less gas.

More gas = more power but worse mpg (or equal to stock)

Less gas = less power (or equal to stock) but better mpg

No doubt there are gains, cause the aftermarket intake is gonna boost power

But there is a myth of how much it makes a difference and they kinda busted it but for our trucks it helps

Power and MPG aren't inversely related, the more power you are making the more efficient your engine is running.

Oh yeah I completely understand the cost compared to how long it'll take to get that money back, but stop and go traffic and low speed limits like I have in my town, saving that fuel at low rpms (what warm air does) might be shorter time but still super long haha but I'm looking to do warm air, headers, and exhaust so the combination is good for sound, mpg, and power

Eh... Sorta. It takes fuel to make power. There is a sweet spot, but take note that the 180hp Prius is getting better fuel mileage than any sports car on the road which has much better aero characteristics. On an underpowered situation where you have to downshift then more power can make you more efficient. If I magically added 300 more horsepower to my truck I can promise I would not be more fuel efficient.

Just get a k&n or AFE drop in filter for your stock intake
