I usually remote start it from inside about 2-3 minutes before I leave. Loosens up the ice so it's easier to scrape off.

I have that stuff as my washer fluid around here. Problem is that most of the time it's an issue is there's ice UNDER the snow so you have to clear the snow off to even spray anything on it.

I use Prestone de-icer. It's yellow. I haven't ever had any issues with it in any vehicles.

The regular stuff is fine but it won't de-ice and that can actually be dangerous here because we get splashback that can then freeze when it's super cold.

I haven't put it in my Taco yet. But it's been in my 2011 Murano for all the winters since we got it and also my 2004 Xterra. I don't know why the Toyota sensors would be any different.

Worst thing to do is to let your car warm up. 30 seconds tops and then go.

The faster the oil/ coolant warms up the better.

I went from a Tundra (use to take ages to warm that thing up) to a SB Tacoma just so that I can park it in my garage. So no more remote start. I have heated parking at work too. :bananadance:

My method is very un-scientific - I let it idle until that change in exhaust sound is heard accompanied by a slight drop in RPM - probably <=30 sec. It's consistent, so it works.

I don't think twice about getting on the road with a cold engine, but then again I don't apply too much load until it's warmed up.

What IS kind of annoying while she's still cold is that RPM increase when applying the brakes (stopped/clutch in). I have an OR, so it has something to do with the electric brake booster I'm sure.

The wife's car lives there, and so does the pop up camper. So I'm out in the driveway :(
