    Hey folks,

I received my SSO Slimline Hybrid from the new owners a couple of weeks ago. I am on the mend with a broken ankle and am sort of planning things at this point with my downtime.

I was disappointed to find out that the new SSO bumper only came with winch cutouts. I was planning on not running a winch at all or maybe adding one later. I also decided to cutoff the bulbar (it does not appear to tie into anything structural, just MIG welded to the top plate) so I am undergoing a bit of metal re-work and powdercoating it to match my sliders and wheels.

That said, I was thinking of filling in the passenger side cutout only so I have access to the clutch on the driver's side. But I looked under the hood and there does appear to be plenty of access from the top. I won’t be using it regularly on the Moab where I need quick access, but I don’t want it to be a PITA either. I am an occasional solo off-roader. The downside of the cutout is the look (I like it better clean) and more crud in there. Does anyone regret either getting the cutouts or not getting the cutouts? Does having one cutout for clutch access make any sense? My rare use case (solo, remote wheeling and being a good Samaritan helping someone else) tells me I don’t need any, but this is my one shot to get it right.

On the M8S, does this seem like a good fit vs the newer models? SSO recommends the Smitty X20 but I would prefer to stay with Warn (owned 3, great customer service, etc). I like the old school look of the M8 (reminds me of an old MX1000), and I think the side mounted relay pack will fit better and also provide an uninterrupted view of the drum. I know it does not handle water as well but I will not be dunking it. Also appears to be about 20lbs lighter than the others.

I don’t see much mention of the M8S but some do really love it. Zeon is still a possibility but I would prefer to not have to cut and fab supports or relocate the control pack. I already have dual batteries and other electrical stuff under the hood.

    Thanks in advance!

I have the SSO Slimline and a Warn Evo 10S. I went no cutouts about a year ago right before the change up, not sure this option is still available.

I’ve used the winch three times since install and have been ok popping the hood and switching the clutch that way, but it is possible through the grill (21 OR).

I also relocated my control pack to the side via the @ClassyTacos method, but I’m not familiar with the M8 control pack to know if this would work.
