I recently got a 2015 AC 4x4 4cyl with 87K on it. I was comparing it's ride quality to that of my 3rd gen 4runner and thought that the Taco didn't ride as nice as the 'runner. It was harsh and my lower back was hurting, but most of that is from the awkward seat position. The runner uses KYB Monomax shocks and Moog replacement coils front and rear. The Monomax are a monotube, high pressure shock. As of now, they're 3 years old and probably 20K miles with no issues/complaints, just a firm ( not harsh to me) but very controlled ride.

2 weeks ago I swapped in a complete TRD OR suspension from a 3rd gen Taco into my Taco; front struts, rear leafs and rear shocks. It's a night and day difference in ride quality and has made the Taco more pleasant to use as a DD, although I still prefer the 4runner for everything. ( it just feels like a more solid vehicle and is quieter inside).

If you're unhappy with the stock suspension on your Taco, I'd recommend swapping in a complete suspension from a 3rd gen OR package. They seem to be easy to find and reasonably cheap to purchase.

There is a used 3rd Gen TRD Off road shocks. I was going to pick up. One question, is can you load the coil from my existing 2nd Gen TRD Sport into the 3rd Gen TRD Off Road? If not, what is a good replacement coil?
