I'll have to give this some thought.. That rebate from Warn makes for a pretty sweet deal.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I see a lot of people that seem really interested in the VR series. If it comes down to saving less than a couple hundred you might want to opt for the slightly higher priced M Series as warn is importing the VR and have received some negative feedback. Decent prices for all listed by the OP though. Just my.2

Because of this I went with the M8000 but relocating the solenoid under the hood is about a 12 pack and a Sat afternoon.

The VR8000 and VR8000-S appear to be only a $100 discount and not $150 like the larger winches per the Warn mail in rebate form as an FYI for anyone on the fence.

I have had and been around Warn winches for years, and in my opinion, the M8000 is a much better product, and would be best for anyone who wheels frequently. The VR series is fine and works great for anyone who plans to self recover rarely, or has short pulls of easier difficulty. My Tacoma will only have a 2-3 inch lift and is mainly for daily use with weekend play time, so the VR is fine for me, I can not justify several hundred more for the slightly better setup for how rarely I have had to recover in the past.

And for anyone playing with the idea of steel cable and adding synthetic later, you always spend more money that way to buy a synthetic winch if that is what you want in the end.

Hope this helps anyone thinking of joining this group buy.

Actually no. VR8000-S would be $584.99

Here is a link to the rebate form from Warn, it shows the applicable rebate amount per VR model, it varies from $100-150.

To apply, the purchase would have to occur before Sept 30 and the rebate would have to be mailed before Oct 31, so these would have to ship in a reasonable amount of time to apply.

8000 lb should be enough, but no one usually regrets adding capacity, though a 10k is probably a bit much and 12k is overkill. If you wheel and recover a bunch, M series the the tried and true benchmark and the one to go with. VR series is comparable to an import Superwinch etc. only with a Warn warranty.

Steel cable is the no nonsense line used for decades, and infrequent use it would probably never need to be replaced. Synthetic line is larger but lighter, and does not have the same violent energy if it fails. But synth line can be damaged by UV light and the elements, and it is not as cut resistant as steel. Both lines can fail if used improperly. Winches typically need a different drum and fairlead to run synth line at a minimum, so buy the right winch first, you always pay more if you don't.

I was planning an M8000 for my 2016 Accesscab, I do not wheel alone and do not run heavy and loaded down. The normal street price for an M8000 has been $850-900+, but with a current rebate on the VR series, likely to reduce inventory, it's an attractive setup for the rare occasion I have to use it. These prices are at or below the better street prices I have found over the last few months for these models.

Warn makes some of the better / best winches out today and for many years in my opinion. They have several other models not included in this buy that are recommendable as well. Other brands make some quality units as well, but I like what I have used in the past because it's what I know. Hope that helps

Currently have my VR8000-S in the garage waiting to be installed. Trying to locate a 2nd set of hands to help me mount the winch and bolt the bumper back up this Saturday. I am curious about fitment, especially with a 20" bar in the cut out. Hoping to have an answer for this this weekend, but in case I do not, I managed to find a Zeon10-S with a 20" bar pic:
