If your vehicle has enough value ... market value - loan amount ... you get the money. It is a "secured loan". If you do not pay it off, you lose your vehicle.

How the hell can you pay for life if you cannot get to work?

Umm take the bus, bum a ride. I don't know. It is an insane and risky thing to do. Especially if you are a person that has difficult time paying things on time but those are the customers I'm sure they are after most. People that aren't credit worthy for normal unsecured loans.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
When I needed an engine a few years ago they said it would be around $10k. The service writer handed me a folder with financing options. I was like what the hell is this? He said oh that’s options we offer for financing. I laughed and was like cool. Do you take debit? How about half up front and the other when its complete. They seemed pissed that I could actually pay for it.

far more people aren't financially secure than you might think. dave ramsey has made quite a lucrative career out of them. newer polls show 44% of people can't pay cash for a $1,000 emergency expense. that was in january, i would expect that number of people to be even higher now...

Fully aware of that fact. That would have been me too at a time in my life not so long that I dont no longer remember it. I happen to listen to Dave Ramsey quite a bit and a few other people what do finance shows. Dave is pretty smart though I don't agree with all his views on credit use.
For me to get to where I have a few tens of thousands in savings plus a pension. I had to teach myself how to budget things out. How to decide what I needed vs wanted and set priorities. I had to set a savings plan up and automatically deposit some of it via payroll deduction so I didn't see it and miss having it to spend.
Another thing that surprises me is people that make 150k and more are paycheck to paycheck. I barely make 60k and owe about $600.00 on my truck yet. Under 40k on my house, under $300 on credit cards and if I needed a new roof tomorrow I'd be able to write a check for it in a day or two once funds were moved.
Because I can do that I live in a smaller older less fancy house and have fewer toys but more security.

Financing vehicle service plans? Yet dealer service departments are unable to accommodate a quick oil change. If you'd like to leave your vehicle here all day we might be able to get to it and then call you when it's ready. An oil change takes 15 minutes and no other vehicles are in your service line.:facepalm:

Mazel Tov young man, you are well on your way to financial security! I am retired at 60 with a significant nest egg and I still live in the same little wood framed house I paid $79K for back in 1992.

Oh, and I drive a piece of shit Tacoma!

Wow a $79,000 house in 1992 is probably now worth $250k or more depending on location.
You're smart for keeping it in these times.

If he sells for $250k+, he will have to buy another at around $250k+. That is the reason many are NOT cashing in on their increased house value right now.

It's actually worth close to $400k now. But the next time I move, my ass will be in a pine box.

"He stopped loving her today, they placed a wreath upon his door ... and soon they'll carry him away ..." -- George Jones

On a serious note: If you find you MUST sell before that, the "tax exempt" portion of the increased value is $250k for single, $500k for married. If you are married, the increased value should be tax-exempt.

That's what you do when you get an extended warranty with your Tacoma. They just tack it onto the sale price.

I can't tell if this thread was started as a flex or a genuine unawareness that many people (unfortunately) finance every aspect of their lives.

    upload_2024-8-25_16-39-7.png

People who whip out the credit card for a $7 starbux but don't pay off the balance each month are "financing" a beverage.

And the national debt is $35 Million Million. If you pay taxes, your share of that is just under $270,000.
