Just bought 177,000 mile 2013 base Tacoma. Dealer wants to sell a GWC warrantee for $1000 for 1 year/14,500. Do you all think I need this? will only be putting prob 3000 miles on it per year. Thanks in advance!

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I wouldn't. But that's me. At 177k, if anything was going to go wrong it would have already. From here on out expect to replace worn parts here and there.

The warranty will only be good for 1 year?

I’d pass on it also but after checking the ac compressor and clutch.
Also driver side front diff needle bearing if it’s 4 wheel drive.
I don’t think the secondary air pump was a issue with
    the 2013’s ?
Maybe have a shop you trust look it over for things the warranty would cover.
I just rolled over 180k and have done both on my 08.

The needle bearing would be less than 1,000$ but the ac and air pump can get expensive.

Secondary air was on the 2012's, i don't think the 2013's had them. I would be more concerned with the p0420 code for the maf, throttle body, misfire, oxygen sensor and catalytic converters.

that's a tough call, 1 year goes by real quick. if you are buying from a TOYOTA dealer there should already be a Certified used Toyota warranty with it, I would take that and pass on the $1000/1 year add on

Check that everything works as it should.
Run the ac at max in the recirculated air setting.
Check temp with a meat therm or temp gun.
    Listen to the motor etc.
listen for noises rattles etc while driving with the radio off and windows down.
Create an account with toyotacares.com ?
This should show reported service history.
It’s pretty high mileage but if maintenance was done it should be good to go without the warranty.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

Just to say I bought my 08 in 11 and salesman was trying to sell me a new cheby with warranty for same cash as the used taco.
I left with my taco 50k miles and 1 month left on factory warranty.

I’ve put 130,000 miles on it myself couldn’t be happier!

Also use a good light and look for leaks anywhere you can.

OP, the devil is in the details on such warranties. Carefully study the language to discover what is not included. You will likely be surprised that most of everything may be excluded in one way or another. Or the language states that you get a used part for something that fails. If you take the warranty you are instantly down $1,000. Consider that along with the particular language in the contract. Remember, the insurer's job is to beat a warranty claim. I generally advocate taking that same $1,000 and setting aside for future repairs.

    Very true!
Wording in the warranty is important.

If this were a certified pre-owned vehicle with under 100k miles it would be eligible for all of Toyota's extended warranties, upto the Platinum. If you could get a good deal on one....then I would say yes.

But these aftermarket Micky Mouse warranties? Not a chance. Just say no
