Always good to ask this after the fact... After putting in a 6" BDS suspension and 4.88 differential gearing, pretty safe to assume warranty is voided on the truck? If I go in to the dealership for an ABS/VSC light, I'm thinking they might be generous to plug 'er in for a diagnostic scan, but any parts & labor fixes would be on me. Who's had experience on this?

Depending on the dealer, they might tell you to pound sand.

It's not even close to the truck Toyota built. Don't expect any love from the dealer.

^Why? Non-warranty work is far more profitable for the dealer. ;)

The dealer shouldn't turn you away. They should diagnose and advise you if the repair is chargeable. E.g. If a wheel speed sensor or wire got damaged during lift install, you pay. If the VSC system needs recalibration due to higher height, you pay. If the VSC computer in the cabin went bad, it should be covered under warranty. If the ABS module under the hood went bad, it should be covered as well.

Probably depends on the dealer and if they have done any 'Dealer Builds'? I see a bunch of vids where dealers have done aftermarket work on some trucks, lifts/tires, etc. If the dealer did it, might have more hope. Again, I'm prob just looking for a good scan to ID source of some problems. Not asking for a fix (yet).

Diagnosis is about all I'd expect in your scenario.
Hell, my dealer arranged for and included my lift in the sale of my truck to me, and I even expect a little hassle if something of the sort arises.

OP, that lift modified the frame as well as the suspension components and your new gears modified a portion of the drivetrain/powertrain (as Toyota would describe it). Your warranties for those items are pretty much hosed unless you have a great lawyer. It’s a misnomer to say your truck’s warranty is voided; just that the protection you had for those systems may be.

I think you are going about this the right way (cautiously). I’d expect that they would either turn you away off the bat or they’d let you pay their diagnosis fee to look at it. What you described though is typical of the ABS wire being damaged during the lift installation. Did it happen immediately or did it take while to become an issue?

It should just depend on what the issue you are having is. If you are having a rear end noise or a t case issue, yes you are on your own. Any transmission problems I would air on the side of no warranty. However since your motor is still stock any motor issues should be covered under warranty unless they can explicitly prove that the gears or lift caused the problem. To me it’s hard to say gears caused a oil leak. Just a thought

No, you stated you changed suspension and gears meaning that those warranty’s are pretty much trash now. However if your engine develops an oil leak while under factory warranty they should still cover it under warranty unless they can 100% prove that your gears or suspension caused the engine to leak oil. The warranty is part specific. Just because you change one part doesnt void your entire warranty.

If they can prove your abs failure or issue is rated to a mod you did then you are going to be out of pocket for the cost. But they could also be cool and cover it, my dealer will cover it, they don’t care.

Went to dealership and was totally honest with the service advisor. He said sounds like an Abs wire, we can check those for $160. I said, um no - can you help me out and juts plug it in and see what codes come back? He agreed they could do that for free. Sweet. 2 hours later, truck is ready and he said the tech did the full Abs inspection (ok cool!) and it sent back code C1401 - Malfunction in Front Right Speed Sensor. Same thing the shop that did my lift told me on their scan. THe difference is that the dealership tech went further and said the sensor is fine, its the wire that's broken. They can fix it for $200. I said great, thanks for the info. No fix today but if I decide to, will call.

Called and talked to the shop, feeling like I discovered its just a broken ABS wire, how could they miss this and jump to the hub assembly? He said, because we actaully swapped to wires, right and left, but the code keeps reading right side only. "Oh, I see." They've already replaced the sensor. So the hub assembly is the last item to replace, since it's either the sensor (replaced), wire (ruled out) or the hub assembly. The shop is ordering a new hub assembly and agreed to install at their cost.

Now the shop replies, "we'll cover it if they can just fix it for $200". Problem is, now I believe the shop and their ABS wire swap, but it's still the right side on the code. So I don't think a new right side ABS wire is going to fix it. Guess I can always tell the dealership Ok, replace the wire and IF it fixes the problem, I'll pay the $200. If they replace the wire and the problem persists, not fair that I pay the money for the busy work. Right?

Anyway, that's the latest in my ongoing "ABS, VSC, no 4WD in a post lift + 4.88 upgrade" saga.

All good! Glad to see a shop back in their work and getting you taken care of. I got lucky with my lift, only thing I had to do was re thread my super shitty tie rod end.
