I bought a Toyota specifically so I wouldn't have to care about the warranty.

After getting my quotes I decided to skip it so I can mod more once the 3/36000 runs out without having to worry about keeping track of every little thing! :D Six months in and I'm already at 12000 miles so for me it'll be more like a 1.5/36000 warranty.

Mine is six months old with 3300 miles and I did my first mod by chopping the flaps after about two weeks. Mod-wise, everyone was like "That'll void your warranty!". My replies were typically twofold:

    1) Magnusson-Moss.
    2) So?

yes I agree with you, my older toyota trucks never had a problem.
But, My 06 lost a 4WD acuator ($550 repair on toyota dime) & other issues during the factory 3/36. I waited to buy it, if I don't need it oh well but the electronics stuff is costly, plus if I wanted to sell before the 100k, it could be used as a selling point advantage or turn in at the pro-rated rate.

Never selling it (I want this truck to do 500,000), and more than willing to gamble that any major repairs would cost at or less the cost of the extended warranty.

For sure...if I had your winters, I might reconsider that situation. Luckily, all we get down here is 40 degree mornings and rain. I just crawl under my cars twice a year or so with a can of black rustoleum and a wire brush to nail any spots that seem like they may be developing into problems.

I drove a crap '96 Stratus to ~180k miles before I sold it after living in Texas and NC. Not a spot of rust on it... definitely a plus to living in the south.

I'm with you, aiming for a half-million or more.

I would caution you against buying an aftermarket extended warranty. I am a Service Director at a VW/Mitsu dealership. We do not accept any extended warranties that we did not sell. We have had too many problems in the past with other companies not wanting to use OEM, or even new parts. We also had issues with companies stopping payments on credit cards. So, if you do decide to purchase from an outside company, be prepared for many dealers not to accept it. You would be responsible for getting approval, and getting reimbursed from that company for what you spent at the repair facility.
