No, I'm not saying that at all. A bad u joint is a bad u joint. You won't be turned away for having a lift. I'm sure you could work something out and pay extra for your carrier bearing assuming you actually have a bad u joint also

It’s $99 diagnosing fee here ughhhhh
Oh well. If they’re bad sweet, they’ll change em. If not, I’ll pay the fee and keep it moving

Hope it don’t take them long to check it out. Is it only a test drive? Or do they actually look at the joints too?

Watching all the techs oogle over all the “extras” is worth the $100 lmao

Yeah, a test drive first to see if it is in fact a bad u joint. If so, then removing the prop shaft to find which one(s) are bad. The up front diagnosis fee is to cover the techs time just in case it is not a bad u joint and is something else entirely.

I assume I received the letter because 1.5 years ago I had my frame replaced at the dealership, that way I'm in their system. I'd go in for an oil change or something small just to be put in the system for future things. You can always go in and talk to them and they'll let you know if you have any outstanding items Toyota will fix for free

I did, too, some time ago - the standard big white envelope with red lettering. Presumably when the title changes the manufacturers get notified for this very reason.

BTW, I just had my frame replaced, and the u-joints checked out fine.

It covers 2005-2011’s and you don't need the letter.

Just FYI, I wasn’t meaning to sound like a smartass earlier. Just always hear horror stories about Dealerships so I never go

Well, to my surprise, they found all 3 Ujoints bad and said they’re are covered. She also said but they did say that your swing bearing is bad. $350 for aftermarket and $438 for Toyota. I asked if there was any extra labor charge to replace it and she said it was included. So, Toyota it is. She was very helpful and said she will have the parts ordered and call me when they come in

So apparently not ever dealership is a horrible breeding ground for monsters
Side note, all of the Techs came out of the shop and was standing around the truck looking under it and all over. Made me feel good knowing that a lot of them probably wheel and are tired of working on grandmas Camry :D

The lady also told me that there was a TSB for my leaf s0rings then said “I assume you prefer yours?” I laughed and said of course

    Overall, today WAS A GOOD

How many miles did you have? I really been thinking about getting like a double cardan put in because shifting from 1st to 2nd is really rough but I think it's literally just because of the axle rap :/

What do they replace the joints with?

    111K
@peteyfresh can probably tell you what they replace them with exactly, I’m sure. I hope they’re greasable. If not, they're doing it for free! 10 years and 111k after, I’m not going to complain either way

Hoping for a little help here. some quick background. 2006 TRD 260K miles, still going strong. Brought the truck to the dealer for frame restoration. No holes but they sent it to a body shop and cleaned it up and coated the frame with some black gunk. I have a warranty enhancement for the u joints, dealer tested and found them bad. I have been waiting for almost 2 months for them to get a special tool to do the replacement! They claim the drive shaft will be damaged otherwise. I just called and they said middle of August. I cant bitch too much, I am pretty happy Toyota is doing anything for a 12 year old truck with 260K miles. Just wondering if anyone else has ran into the 'special tool" issue.
    Thanks

I know it won’t be any help, but my dealer made it sound like they’ve done a bunch of them. I wouldn’t see why your dealer wouldn’t already have this “specialty tool” considering this is kind of their job, working on Toyota’s...

I think they are Spicer brand. And they do not have grease fittings
