    Hey Tacoma World,

I just got my first Tacoma. A 2009 4cyl, manual, 4x4 Access cab w/ 96k miles. I got talked into buying the 2 year or 48k mile warranty by the used car dealer for an extra $2000. It's added into my financing, but comes out to be an extra $32/month AND has a $200 deductible.

My question to the forum is, do I need this? Here's what it covers:

    - Anything with the engine, tranny, transfer case, and transaxle.

    - Drive axle

    - Front Suspension (Control arms, ball joints, hub and wheel bearings).

    - Steering, Fuel system, Radiator, A/C

    - Brakes and brake system

    - Started, Alternator, all seals and gaskets.

In order for this to pay for itself a couple major things are going to have to go wrong. Has anyone ever experienced major problems costing more than $2000 to fix on their Tacoma under 144,000 miles?

    Thanks for the input.

    Cheers!

My 09 has 126k on it and the only thing I've replaced was 1 front wheel bearing @ a cost of about $350. Obviously I've done normal maintenance like front brake pads, etc...but definitely not $2,000 worth of work. If the truck has been taken care of, I would think the stuff you list would be just fine for another 50k miles.

You may not get an exact answer on this. It really comes down to personal preference. Since that you didn't have the vehicle since new it's hard to say. As long that all the maintenance was done according to the schedule you should be fine.

You will know after 2 years or 48K. Trannys are expensive! Good Luck.

Check with your insurance company. I can add mechanical repair to my insurance that would cover large expensive items.
