Just curious if anyone has ever had an issue with the rear window seal on a gen 3 Tacoma w/ the power rear window? My seal detached from the glass and now when you close the window it bulges out and is messed up.

Just got off the phone with Toyota. They said due to the nature of the repair they have to call for additional approval, and I may have to wait up to 30 days for a high level warranty approver to come out to the dealership.......

It sounds like I am getting Fed around with at this point. Anyone with warranty knowledge / dealership policies please give me something to go on here. Really getting upset at this.

You can always try to call Toyota Corp and open a Case, you will be bypassing the Dealer and going over their heads.

Well I am going to work with them for now it is not officially a deadend yet. They said they would call me tonight or tomorrow. I just guess I figured they would look at it and take care of the problem and not fight me on a warranty issue.....

Working at a ford dealer i know that getting additional warrenty approval is a pain in the ass and does take a while, i dont know anything about third gens but maybe the whole rear window assembly has to be replaced and the dealer has to get corp to come take a look before corp will cover it. For ford there are only like 4 guys who cover the whole of Louisiana for warrenty inspection validation and they have to drive to all the different dealers so each may only see 2 or 3 cases per day.
    Just my two cents.

Your fine op, the dealer doesn't have the authority to just fix issues anymore. Since things are more automated now in the assembly process, they sometimes need to see what the problem is. They will fix it. They just need more information on the repair and the dealer can't give that info. It has to come from corporate field guy.

I got a call from the service manager late today. He stated that due to the nature of the seal on the window (right side weather stripping that is inside the cab, that is exposed when you open the rear window, he needs additional approval to fix it and get it approved. He said that the whole rear window would need to be replaced. WOW....

That just seems silly for such a small repair. I am supposed to get more information tomorrow. I have never had a warranty issue like this before, but what you said really hits the nail on the head so far.

If they turn down your warranty approval due to something they say you did, they have to give you the reason in writing - read up on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Call corporate, usually gets things done quicker as they’ll authorize it as warranty to the dealer of your choice. The dealer is just worried they won’t get reimbursed from corporate for a warranty repair hence why they need to ensure by making calls themselves to corporate. But it should not take 30 days. They are just trying to shu you away.
