    Hey everyone,

im having an issue with Toyota. about 2-1/2 months ago someone at my dealership told me my leafs are sagging lower than spec so they changed them out about 3 weeks ago (durring my time of waiting on replacements i installed a level kit)... well 2 days after install the dealer calls me back and said they put the wrong ones on and need to change them out again. so this Saturday they changed them again (they have now changed out my rear leafs 2 times while the truck has had a level kit) and i noticed Monday morning my right rear is sagging 1-1/2 inches which is noticeable to the naked eye. i took the truck into Toyota Monday night and one of the master techs said he couldn't touch my truck because i have modified it... i told him his shop has done the leafs 2 times now and if that was in fact the case he should never have touched it. do i have enough of an argument for them to fix it right based on the fact they did the leafs twice while it was lifted and it has to do with the same thing?

thank you for your feed back.

    Eric

Yikes. Definitely an issue when you have a modification that touches any part of a warrantied component. Dealer holds the power to reject warranty work and they know damn well most people don't have the wherewithal to fight them on it (time, savvy/knowledge, lawyers, money, etc.) This is why I have not modded my truck with all of the issues I've had with leaf springs and now on 2nd rear differential starting to fail (premature wear and howling). So that isn't helpful, perhaps if you have any photos or documentation that you can use to PROVE that the dealer has worked on the truck prior with those suspension modifications having previously been applied, you can then use that as your argument and take it to the service manager to get the assistance and support you need. Hopefully also you purchased your truck from this dealer and you can push the "repeat/future customer" angle as well. If you have a receipt showing when the mods were purchased and installed, that date should prove the mods were installed prior to previous warranty work they had performed. "They were accepting of the modifications before, so why the change now?" is the question you have to push. Be nice and cordial with them but present the facts in doing so.

Mine look a little low also. I have the 5k service tomorrow and I'll probably ask them to check. Do you haul anything heavy in your bed?

the leafs for these trucks are some of the worse I have ever seen. Just grin it for a little bit, and buy a Allpro pack or something similar so you will obtain the good load carrying capacity and the likely hood of never sagging again.

Yea looks like Toyota hasn't stepped up their leaf spring game from the gen 2 unfortunately, and they just released a recall on the 2013+ gen 2's for that if my memory serves me right. Aftermarket leafs are the only thing I'll consider if/when mine start giving me problems.

A recall on the 2012+, where might have you seen this?

They dont have to since he installed the leveling kit. Looks like they said it contributed to the failure in their minds, so no, toyota does not have to fix it.

Toyota needs to fix the leaf springs issue in general for those who have Stock trucks. Many of us have issues with the leafs with no mods. By going rogue and fixing the problems on your own rather than holding corporate accountable, as you suggest in buying All Pro leaf packs, you are part of the problem and not the solution. To your point If he modded his truck then I agree he will have a warranty issue there.

Memory did not serve me correctly, it was for a shudder on the facelifted ones; the leaf spring tsb/recall was for the earlier 2nd gens. My bad. source:

He did say he put a leveling kit, which usually means a 1" block in the rear.

As far as going rogue, its a simple fact that toyota couldnt give two shits. They havent updated the pack in yeeeeaaaaarrrrs and I dont think they will anytime soon. So why continue to beat a deadhorse?

Not necessarily true. If people come out in masses and push the issues to Dealers and Corporate we will get the "squeaky wheel oiled" (or is it springs?):D

See the Transmission TSB for proof that Toyota will listen when enough people raise hell.

P.S. why are you even here? You don't even own a 2016 but you haunt the 3rd gen forum sprinkling your opinion on half of the threads here. Alas, I'm not the forum police so Carry on....

You're right in that you have to file warranty claims for toyota to see the problem and start recording it, and I agree it's their responsibility to fix the problem but unfortunately you are stuck with the choice between Toyota replacing the factory crappy leaf springs with more factory crappy leaf springs or voiding your warranty and getting decent leaf springs. Best option is to force them to replace the leaf springs until your truck is out of warranty or until the warranty has been deemed void by toyota, then go aftermarket.

If they can't fix the leafs after XX attempts it can bring about other 'issues' and ramifications for the consumer. I'll leave it at that

I think you could argue that angle, sure. Now whether they're accepting or not could be just a matter of catching the right guy on the right day... someone not in the mood to tell you to pound sand.
