Back in January I purchased a '21 Tacoma DCSB OR with about ~14K miles on the odometer. $37K, traded in an old truck for $5k, put $8k down. I added $3k on top of the financing amount with a 7yr/100k miles warranty + 3yr maintenance (oil changes, tire rotations, etc.)
Do you feel like adding that 7yr/100k miles warranty + maintenance is worth it? adds about $55 a month to my car payments. It is cancellable at any time.

Wondering what other deals are out there? The maintenance is nice and the warranty gives me the peace of mind, but I know this is where dealers make some easy profit so I am a bit cynical.

Do your own basic maintenance man, its easy and you just might enjoy the experience (I know I do even after almost 50 years of doing it!). Concerning the warranty, you are buying what I would personally consider unnecessary insurance. Why would you not start putting that $55 a month in an untouchable savings account right fucking now and do it for as long as you own the truck! Before you know it, you will have some coin stashed for those times when stuff does wear out and needs attention. And if you are lucky and nothing bad happens while you own this truck, at the end you will have a nice wad of cash to blow on an epic whatever kind of parties you guys are having these days. :)

Let's face it, the odds of you using the extended warranty are kind of slim or they would not sell them. Some folks out there will tell you they are glad they bought extended warranties, but most look back and say what a waste of money! Your call brother, you have to be able to sleep at night.

    Carry on!

I ponied up for "wheel/tire and keyfob" insurance, nothing else. Full-tire or wheel replacement if I break them off-road instead of just patch the thing and hope for the best in the future. The cost is $900 and covers something I am likely to abuse. The "comprehensive" for everything else was pricey at $3k.

I know saving per month is a wise solution, but I can see myself killing tires before I have saved enough.

Everyone has a different situation. $55 a month isn’t much for peace of mind on a used (even if slightly) vehicle. I don’t think the chances of using it are slim. In fact you’ll likely use it for something if you keep it the whole $100k. Just not $3k worth…but, just in case it’s there.

Disclaimer: I generally have bought new vehicles and never bought a warranty. Mostly because I know 100% of what I’ve done to it.
