So, I recently bought a new 2020 with be 100,000 mile warranty. Im curious of anyone knows what modifications I can do without voiding any parts of the warranty.

Also if I added a lift kit what parts of the warranty would end up being voided out?

Honestly it depends on the shop you use how much leeway they’ll give you. Technically they have to prove the aftermarket part caused the otherwise warrantable defect to reject the claim.
They’ll only be able to deny warranty for related suspension items/ ECGS bushing

In my experience, Toyota service centers across the nation suck ass, good luck

It does come down to dealer cooperation, or lack thereof.
Some are enthusiasts and/or really concerned with helping, and others are crusty crumudgens that blame everything on the owner. And some in between.

At this point I think a lift kit will be my only functional mod besides remote start, most are visual I have planned, ceramic tint, Pro Grille, blacked out emblems, safe. But im hoping they will work with me for the warranty, guess ill be calling my salesman

Pro grill could be and issue if you develop problems with the TSS. Also, with a lift, be aware that anything related to the suspension... vibrations, pulling, uneven tire wear or suspension parts failure even if the failed parts were no those added for the lift. And of course any added suspension parts that fail you'll need to address with the manufacturer or shop that installed it.

Probably won’t even have a warranty issue within 100k mikes that would concern those mods.the dealer installs those things on their trucks usually anyway if the warranty thing is really an issue for you have the dealer install it all so they are liable

Isn't the option for the 100,000 mile warranty the powertrain only?

the phrase " better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission" does not apply in your case, i would talk to the dealer you bought it from. would suck to screw up that 100K extended warranty.

There’s a post somewhere on TW where the guy took his TRD off-road off roading and heard some strange noise afterwards and decided to take it back to the dealer.
Dealer said off roading voided the warranty.

There's a very good chance your salesmen will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you off the phone.
Sales, service, and parts are all entirely different departments. If you want free floormats with your new vehicle, your salesmen will either tell you piss off, or if he's making enough on the deal, will walk down to parts, open up his wallet and buy them at cost.
I'm not poo pooing your lift, I just don't want you to have some false security- the salesmen at this point is very little help.

There are plenty of weasel clauses in a performance contract like a warranty. When you give a corporation the evidence to deny your claim by adding aftermarket parts they will take advantage of that on a big ticket repair. So be prepared to spend $$$ to enforce any remedies you may be entitled to under that performance contract.

See i just dont want to pay the dealer the crazy prices they charge for something as simple as a lift kit, and i doubt they would let me use the dobinsons kit i want since its not something they normally install

Ya i plan on most likely calling the salesman and having him direct me to the right person since he still calls me checking up on the truck and what not to look good.

you definitely ain't pooing on my lift, i had a strong feeling there would be a lot of certainly but if i got to hold off ill do just that

If you got a 100k service contract with the truck, they should have given you paperwork that would include terms/conditions of the agreement along with a list of exclusions. I would say you might want to read through that first. Don't mistake your added agreement as a "warranty extension" because it isn't. It's an added service that was built into the price of the truck.

then I say don’t worry about the warranty stuff cuz your truck will be fine.

It all comes down to the dealer. My truck had the front engine cover leaking oil pretty bad, no hassle repaired under warranty. A good friend of mine went to his dealer about 50 miles from town, and they rejected it saying his lift caused too much strain on his engine. You’ll have to pick your poison. A true customer oriented dealer will honor the warranty with the exceptions mentioned in other posts.
I paid $1095 and it was a cheap price for a peace of mind to me. Different opinions though.

just FYI, keep in mind that while yes the dealer has to prove that your mods caused a failure, it cost time and money to initiate that process. You don’t just walk in and tell them to prove it or fix it.

That's a maintenance package, not the same thing I'm talking about. I'm talking about a service agreement. They do go by different names depending on how the obligor wants to word it. But you want to see how they view modifications to the vehicle. Sometimes it is worded that the modification has to be in relation to the failure/repair needed. Others just flat out exclude all modifications to the vehicle. It all depends on the agreement you have.

I stopped in and talked to the service department today since no customers were there i was talking toa bout 4 of them. I asked if i did a lift what would be voided, he said pretty much only the parts i install and they would most likely turn the pre-collision system off, same if i replaced the grille. Overall they said they have a lot of lifted tacomas that stop in and never had any issues with warranties with any of them.
