I know you can take your Toyota to any dealership to have the service work done that is included in the warranty. My question is, do you take your truck to the dealer where you purchased or a different dealership? This question comes up as I purchased a truck from a dealer that is 45 minutes away, but there is a dealer that is only 15 minutes away. Thoughts? Do they treat you better where you bought?

While I have a local dealer two minutes up the road, I take my Taco to Little Rock, which is 45 minutes down the road, for service (even oil changes) because that's where I purchased it and they have all my service records and have a history with me (purchased several vehicles from them). Call it peace of mind. Once my warranties drop, I stay local. My son's 4Runner isn't under warranty, so any work I can't do is done local.

I did the same as you when purchasing and now just go to my local dealer.

No issues as they have already done warranty, regular oil changes, and tsbs for me.

Doesn't matter where you go. Choose the one that treats you best and has a high quality of work.

your service history goes into a national Toyota database where all dealers can see it.

I bought my truck over an hour away. I don’t go to that dealer for anything.

Go where they have a well established and a good service reputation.
Ask people you may know, check with BBB and google reviews and see who's been naughty and who is nice and go there.

I pass up a dealer 20 min away to go to one over an hr away, which has the superior service center IME. I purchased there too. edit: If I'd bought at the closer one, I'd still go out of my way for service.

Take it to any Toyota dealership you wish.
If your told different, ask to have it put in writing, then get a lawyer.

I bought my truck over an hour away from where I live. I go to the dealer that’s down the road. I found a service advisor who goes above and beyond for me. Just varies, the dealer you got it from could be complete tools. I’d try the local dealer and if they mess up bring it to another.

Sure is. Work takes me that way once-twice month, so it's not so bad if I schedule ahead. If my truck ever breaks down close to home, it'll be a different matter.

You guys in the upper 48 are lucky, you have so many dealers to go to, and you have service records computerized. Here in Hawaii each island have dealers and all are affiliated with Toyota of Japan, we don't even have the Toyota Owners App. My island only has 2 dealers, over 100 miles apart, no deals, parts are 2 - 3 times the cost as your dealers, I bought parts for my 03 Taco at an online dealer parts dept and paid 1/3 what my dealer wanted, that's with shipping! I went to get something checked on my new 17 Taco and overheard the service rep quote a lady $85 to rotate tires and oil change on a 14 Camry! Talk about getting Raped!!! Oh well, all I'm doing there is the "free" service for 2yrs. Then it's all DIY!.......

I plan on selling my truck privately while it’s still within the factory warranty.

For whatever reason, maybe it’s just the OCD part of me, I’ve always felt better about buying a vehicle that had on-schedule service at the same dealership that it was purchased from.

I guess it’s just my hopes that the person buying my truck will look at the car fax and think “wow his guy took care of his truck because he had it serviced at the same place he bought it from”.

Whenever I look at a car fax with service history at different dealerships, it makes me think the person wasn’t organized and didn’t take as good of care of the vehicle.

dont understand this.....if the service was done on time, it doesn’t necessarily mean he didn’t take care of the truck....quite the contrary, it means he did all scheduled service just at different dealers....could be that he was out of town or just happened to be near that dealer and it was time for service and more convenient

Yeah I know. Never said it made sense :)

For me, if I’m comparing two similar vehicles and they both have carfax info showing the same scheduled maintenance, I’d lean towards the one that had it done at the same dealership.

But in the end, you’re right. It makes no difference and, as long as the service was done on time, it’s all the same. Just a personal thing and my mind’s desire for consistency

What if the reason was due to finding a better more competent service center. Would you rather buy a vehicle that was serviced at the same questionable dealership it's life, or one that has seen different dealers, but had the best tech on it. Maybe the owner had a good relationship with a particular tech and that tech moved from dealer to dealer to get away from shotty management. Not saying your way of thinking is wrong, I am giving a point of view from the inside. I have moved to a few different shops in my career and have had several customers follow me. They were not bringing their equipment to a certain dealership, they were bringing it to a certain technician.
