I was looking at getting a lift for my 2021, and was wondering will this void my warranty? A friend of mine who owns a shop says he is certified and it wont void the warranty. And looking online, what I have found says anything past 2" it will void the parts being replaced.

It depends, if you go over 2" I recommend you ensure your driveline angles, etc. are corrected. The dealer has to prove it see below. Also, dealers will try to scare you but being informed protects you.

According to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty of your vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part was the cause of or contributed to the failure of the vehicle (15 U.S.C. 2302 (C)).

Has nothing to do with the height of your lift. Potentially, any modification (lifts, tuning, oversized tires, etc) has the potential to have a warranty claim denied. Much of it will depend on the dealership and how willing they are to help you out.

As far as Mag-Moss, you might want to read this sticky thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ffs-lets-all-stop-referencing-the-magnussen-moss-act.609911/. You go in for warranty work, the dealer says not covered because of your mods. You complain to dealer management and Toyota corporate and they still say your mods caused the issue. Now what are you going to do? The alternative is to spend money on an attorney, and that will more than likely cost more than paying for the repair. Bottom line is mods are pay to play, and part of your decision to do them should take the fact that you may be on your own for warranty work into account.

So I'm guessing I should give the dealership a call and see what they say or read over my contract. Thank you

Probably both. Also, have you looked at the TRD Lift Kit installed by the dealer? Its not cheap, but since it's Toyota OEM and dealer installed you won't have a warranty issue, and you get your lift. Something worth considering.

I see what you mean, just read the thread. Just got to pay to play. As far as my buddy saying his shop is "certified" and "wont void the warranty" what do you make of that? Is there such a thing or is he just trying to get my business?

Hate to say it about your buddy but I call BS. Having your lift installed by an ASC certified mechanic may ensure it's installed properly, but makes no difference as far as Toyota is concerned. It's still aftermarket parts used to make a non-factory authorized mod.

Shouldn't be, at least for the toyota factory ones. They keep sending me their lift brochure's promoting their 3 year warranty on them.

I would think it depends on the dealer and how extreme your lift is. My dealer seems to not care too much about lifts and other mods. They told me not to worry about it unless it's a more extreme mod. Of course you can't always take their word for things but that's my experience so far. I hope to never have to make a warranty claim.

I used to take my truck into Toyota for service when it was new and had a lift installed. Service advisor looked at my truck and said that because of my lift my warranty was void. I replied with well I guess I might as well start servicing my self. Haven't been in a dealership since . Roll the dice like some have said you might have a dealership that works with you or just wait till your warranty expires.

Any deviation from stock can void your warranty. Not your entire warranty, just coverage for that system that has been altered.

The Mag-Moss Act does provide protection and requires the dealer to show that the modification caused the failure you’re looking to cover under warranty in order to deny warranty coverage, but this isn’t necessarily a silver bullet. It can either be a battle won in a single conversation with the dealer, or anything up to a lawsuit.

I think what people fail to realize is a lift won’t just blanket void the warranty overall. If you’re blowing out CV axles every 2 weeks after you lifted the front 3.5, then yeah, Toyota is going to tell you to pound sand. But if you bring that same truck in for a bad crankshaft position sensor, the lift isn’t going to void the warranty replacement of that part because has nothing to do with the modifications you made on the suspension.

I went with the TRD lift for this reason. Everything still covered under warranty.
