Warranty work...Heavily Flexed?

So, when I bought my NEW 2017 Tacoma late last month (it sat on the lot a long time, and now I know why), I noticed, at the dealership, that there was a slight door alignment issue on the drivers side. I had flown in to get it, and thought... well, it'll be warranty work so I'll just have them fix it when I get back home, rather than staying in town for however many days and missing a bunch of work.

When I get it back home, and have some time with it without all the commotion of the dealership and purchase, I notice some other little things.

The bed sits a bit lower on the driver side than it does on the passenger, near the cab. There also seems to be an ever so slight dent, at what apparently is the drivers side window drain area, between the cab and the bed.

The local dealership sent it out to a body shop, covering it under warranty work, last week. I was expecting it back today, but was told today it will likely be the end of the week, if everything goes snooth.

They are saying it looks like the bed 'kissed' the back of the cab, and was likely "heavily flexed" at the dealership somehow. There is nothing else to indicate that it was wrecked, as in bumper damage, but when I spoke with the body shop, he said the type of damage he is seeing is typically from rear end collision on that side, or some other sort of extreme flexing, likely from coming off the delivery truck hard, or what not.

He still does not know yet, if the frame is bent, as it should go on whatever type measuring machine/device tomorrow. Does say that that he doesn't see any wrinkling in the frame. They have the bed off now.

They have supposedly successfully realigned the door.

The small indent on the back of the cab, where they say the bed kissed it... it looks like it's gonna be a bondo type job, and some paint/finish work. I'm not real happy about my new truck having a filler and paint work right off the bat, with less than 1000 miles on it, and no damage caused by me.

What really concerns me is that frame, and the bed being lower on one side than the other.

    Thoughts...

Hmmmmmm, doesn't sound like a thrilling start to new ownership.
Very curious to hear if they comeback with anymore issues.. I'd be in talks with Toyota/Dealer about a reflection of these issues in the form of a refund. You bought a new truck - not a flexed out, bondo repaired, warranty job

That Tacoma is standard procedure for Toyota quality... essentially they all do that.

No way, our esteemed fanboy members here all say Toyota's are perfect. I really don't see any reason to doubt that; do you?

Dropped off a lift maybe?? I'd be talking about a replacement with Toyota. Start the convo with them about it but be calm and positive.

"What would you do if your truck needed extensive body work fresh from the factory?"

Something doesn't seem right and someone isn't being totally honest. I'd be pressuring dealer for answers in a positive way, not being an asshole about it. But firm and firmer when/if there's push back.

Ask them for a diminished value discount - that bodywork is going to show up on Carfax. In fact, I’d check it now.

    OME and worth every penny.
Vehicles certainly do get damaged at the dealership and these guys were out and out frauds not to disclose it.

These types of vehicles used to be heavily discounted.

    Sign of the times.

when I bought my brand new 2016 explorer, it had an area where the front driver's door was rubbing on the rear passenger door when you closed it, the dealer did the best they could to fix it but It wasn't the best and i got rid of it anyhow.

So how does one go about opening a case with Toyota Corporate? Maybe I am just missing it, but I do not see a link at Toyota Owners. Or is there a better way to go about it. Maybe I should contact a lawyer first?

I *think* the dealership is required to disclose any damage more than $500.

You ever see those stupid ramp things in front of some dealers lot where they park some 4wd vehicle at a weird angle all flexed out ? Jeep dealer near me had a Jeep parked for months on one of those flexed out to the max . I would never buy that vehicle probably prematurely wore out suspension components. But maybe that’s how your truck was parked and some how got damaged :notsure:

That ^^^ a simple question treating the dealer kindly.

Then wait for a lie.. you should be able to look someone in the eye and see they are lying thru the teeth. Then ask them nicely how to open a case with corporate.

It really shouldn't matter to the dealer. Not sure why you got a truck damaged unless it was actually done AT the dealer. In which case person(s) involved tried to cover it up.

Me, I'd prolly be "you fucking lying ass fucktard, I want my fucking money back and I'm getting a lawyer and I'm going to sue your sorry fucktard ass for my money and a new truck." Wow I feel better already.

I'd prolly try and fit another "fucktard" in there just for good measure.

    Call it THE triple threat.

100% would try and trade out for another new vehicle. Frame and body damage or whatever you want to call it from a brand new truck would be unacceptable for me to continue ownership, in my eyes.

A bit cynical considering you also own a Tacoma. The quality standards undoubtedly at Toyota plant are much higher than other non-luxury OEMs. By no means is Toyota perfect - things slip through during inspection, and transit is always a risk, but generalizing that 'all' Toyotas have issues is a bit extreme.
