He wants his truck fixed, not a date with Bubba the Large when he gets thrown into the klink after fighting everyone in the service dept.

Sounds like this will be taken care of and I'm glad to hear it . In the event it isn't covered let me remind everyone an issue like this can be covered on insurance. Not that it is the preferred option but it's better than footing the whole bill. That would also get you a rental and if you specify that you use the truck for work they put you in a truck fyi.

I know how to contact the CEO of Toyota directly, but part of me does not believe that you are being strait with us.

Unless you live in two very crappy states, factory warranties are bulletproof and the burden of proof for a claim of abuse is on the manufacturer (not the manufacturer's dealer rep) and there is zero discretion allocated to any service manager.

If I am being a little direct with you, it is because I am concerned that you are being taken advantage of, but the story does not make sense.

First of all, a $7K repair under warranty is a windfall for the dealership, why they would deny coverage that is billed to Toyota is nonsensical.
    • Unless, they can prove that your use or better stated abuse of the vehicle directly caused the damage, there is no reason why Toyota would refuse to pay.
    • Some states require that the manufacturer provide documentation regarding abuse, while providing a replacement vehicle while it is not operational.
    • Some states require that dealers bill the manufacturers at the same rate as the vehicle owners. No way Toyota pays $7K for a differential. No way.
The only thing I can even come close to rationalizing is if you came into the dealership in 4WD, and some computer says you drove it in 4WD constantly and consistently against the explicit documentation in the manual.

That will blow up a $2500 differential, but I still would have expected that to take 70K miles.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the dealership submit the warranty claim to Toyota Corporate for approval? They're the ones paying the bill for the repair, right? I can't figure out what a dealership gets out of saying "no"? If someone who knows the whole administrative process for these warranty claims can lay it all out I think that'd help the OP and all of us.

    Also....stop dealing with that dealership.

$7K is ridiculous, and $4K for the warranty is your fault, but still ridiculous.

Who is the dealer? Are they independent or owned by an auto group with their own leadership?

I am not an advocate for burning dealerships on social media for invalid reasons, and to avoid any kind of cease and desist letter, your comments need to be factual and or express your feeilings vs. broad accusations.

I know that I would not be proud, if I read a review of a dealership I owned or managed that said.....
    1. Service manager denied factory warranty coverage at 18K miles, did not provide documentation or details regarding.
    2. Management did not make themselves available after requesting clarification.
    3. Paid $4K for a warranty I now understand has a resell value at other Toyota dealerships of approx. $1200
    4. Dealership quoted $7000 for a differential repair that was estimated at $2500 at another Toyota dealership.

Being honest and straight last thing I want to do on a 50k truck is best the balls off it and then pay for it while I’m still paying for it monthly I understand what you are saying 100% but like I said I hooked the chain up to my buddies truck (my rear his front) pulled him out in fwd clicked out of fwd and drove off halfway back started hearing funny noises checked everything out couldn’t see any flaws no leaks no cracks nothing so I kept driving and then caboom went the rear diff got it towed home rest of the way then towed to Toyota Toyota told me no longer covered because of abuse to vehicle like I stated I don’t abuse the truck I use the truck for truck stuff (dirt roads fire roads ice snow rain and type of weather) Truck has never been “wheelin” that’s what I have a 01 Wrangler for this is my commuter truck and all was good until this happened

You are absolutely correct. Now, if we follow that logic...….

    1. The dealership is most likely required to submit the claim for payment to Toyota, and Toyota would ask for diagnosis, and if applicable proof of abuse.
    2. Toyota may disagree with the diagnosis and would balk at the $7K since they have a schedule list for repair hours and parts pricing.
    3. I guess it is far fetched but not impossible to assume that a greedy dealer would say....."why would I bill Toyota $2500 under warranty if I can get the owner to pay $7K, (he did pay $4K for the warranty).

BTW the OP should 100% demand reimbursement for the add on warranty. It will probably be pro rated, but put to better use for sure.

If memory serves, Arkansas and North Carolina are the ones with the least protection for new vehicle warranties. There are alot of crappy states for (add on warranties) or service agreements after the fact.

I remember thinking Montana is the best (probably because of a large agricultural community). I used to buy my cars (fancy) from the state with the most protections. It can make a world of difference.

In TX, allot of our govt. sucks, but we have a pretty good department of licensing and regulation that does not side with the manufacturers, and will put a service manager in their place quick.

I would think that the dealership would submit the claim to Toyota before doing the work, and then start the work once authorized by Toyota.

The service dept at that stealership have probably never seen anything like it, specially on a TOYOTA.
Let's give them a break and a chance to make things right??

These things just don't happen (rear end destruction) without unusual intervention, mainly improper operation.
Not saying they can't happen, if something can happen, it will to someone sometime and you just might have gotten the call.
I have seen rear diffs destroyed from lack of oil to the point that it turned all components into a black powdery mix, and seen bearings and gears broken and blueish from heat. But it takes a lot to get there and the horrible smell it gives out long before failure is enough to make one stop.

Not to spoil the FuN, but legally I don't see it stated on the commercial that the warranty will cover that type of use, or that is what it is made to do. It does show what the truck is easy capable of, and can do.

That said, TOYOTA has covered worst cases than yours and they'll most likely will cover you unless there's overwhelming evidence of obvious abuse.
And even then, They still may cover you at least that one time. Or at least that is my sincere hope.

    Good luck
    Cheers
