Why? His horror story will help others to not give Toyota the evidence to deny the claim. The OP is a nice guy for helping his friend from being stuck but by volunteering that information to an agent of Toyota he breach his performance contract with Toyota i.e. the warranty.

The moral of the story: don’t tell the dealer or Toyota shit.

Didn't read all 8 pages, but I'm wondering what all you got to blow up to get to $7K on a diff. I can't imagine everything being toast on the whole axle, but for $7K I'd find a complete axle in a wrecking yard and swap it out myself if it's really that bad.

The warranty has some clever weasel clauses...so yeah it’s the best option to say I don’t know that’s why it’s here.

Toyota should fix this and it’s pretty sad if they don’t. Nobody should have to pay to replace a diff on a truck with 18k miles . I take pretty good care of my truck but as a Toyota it should be able to take a little punishment without blowing up a diff. Not all of us buy a Tacoma just to haul a few bags of potting soil on the weekends

I feel like there is more to the story. No way it can only be some dirt on the underside.

Maybe Toyota is seeing signs excessive abuse or something. I can’t imagine being denied for some dirt. If that’s the case I sure hope nothing goes wrong with my truck because I will be fooked

That’s what I was thinking. Lots of guys on here that wheel far harder then I do and haven’t had these issues. I hope it works out for the OP but still think there is more here.

I didn’t read back through all the pages... but remember they can pretty much download your entire driving records/ habits. I know a Warranty guy that works for Chrysler and checking how many times you redline your truck is step 1.... trucks of today aren’t like they were even 10 years ago. Don’t even get me started on those OBDII readers insurance companies give out to “help” you. Where do you think all that info comes from? Not saying OP did or didn’t get screwed. No idea, but know that they can and will look at your claim pretty carefully, it’s kinda the guys job to ensure they’re only spending what they have too. I do hope it works out though.

Shouldn't need a lawyer other than to maybe write a demand letter on their letterhead as to precisely why they denied your claim. Usually, if you become a big enough PITA they will respond. Not sure how they can conclude abuse without disassembling/ examining the rear end. Telling them that you yanked a buddy out of the mud just gives them an easy out - you must of overheated/ stressed the diff., abusive operation, etc..

been 7 days since original post any new news?
your avatar says you have 3 inch lift . bigger tires?
you said you don't wheel it ever . your avatar pic shows truck flexed on 1and half foot high rock.

even with all that I think Toyota should/will cover it.
also dealers like doing warranty work its usually easy pay they don't have to sell the customer.
unless they think it will be bounced. as is probably with OP truck. and the dealer its at. or they are just dicks

I would just like to know the full story, what was the rational for warranty denial... and you’re not willing to potentially save thousands of dollars and take this case to arbitration because you’re over it? Come on OP, what’s the real story here...
