Was doing on board air, but then, got horny!

Was it click bait? Well lets see....

All factory holes used in this project, nothing stock was modified.

    Was setting up an on board air system with this twin compressor;

Mounted it on a slee compressor mount, (after painting)
    https://sleeoffroad.com/products/sok0038/

over the ABS module on the rear passenger area of the engine compartment,

Since I was using 3/8 copper brake line, I didn't want to create any restrictions and heat from sharp 90 deg changes in direction.
So I used 2 45 deg 1/4" NPT fittings connected to a NPT to 3/8 flare fitting to transition to the copper tubing.
Ran about 40" of tubing along the outside of the engine compartment (added a tubing clamp through the existing hole in the rad support at the red arrow) to a 6 way manifold bolted to an existing bolt hole in the rad support beside the hood latch (Blue Arrow).
Cools the air quite a bit before the manifold.

My ORIGINAL plan was to mount a piece of 1-5/8 x 7/8 Unistrut on the Passenger side top condenser support to an existing hole in the rad cradle about 14" below it.
    (which I did)

But then I was going to mount a 1 gallon air tank to that, add a pressure gauge to the top of the tank (which I did, but not to this one), drain out the bottom and then add a adjustable regulator and air chuck for filing the tires...
which would have only been this many parts...

Well after the Unistrut was cut, painted and mounted...

And I won't blame the beer for what happened next....

Well ok I will admit it... :anonymous: I got a little horny.

    https://vixenhorns.com/product/vixen-horns-vxh1168b-semi-truck-single-air-horn-black/

So using some allthread and a unistrut nut I bolted the base end of this 26" long horn to the unistrut,
and used a 90 deg 3" bracket bolted to an existing hole on the rad support for the bell end support.

Was still waiting on parts so used a few pieces of tubing bent over to plug 2 ports of the manifold and bent up and flared a S shaped bit of tubing from the manifold to the solenoid on the horn.

Then added a waterproof connector for the solenoid and ran the feed to my Spod Bantam controller.

Everything fit in there like it was meant to be, could still reach the clutch on my winch,

At this point it worked quite well, louder than an open pipe Harley.
150Psi but would drop right down because of lack of stored air volume.

The 1 Gal Tank would now not fit nicely with the horn in the way or making some real funky brackets,

    so I got a 1/2 gal tank.

More parts came in but not everything yet

Installed the tank onto the Unistrut, screwed a pressure gauge onto the top of the tank,

Ran a line from the manifold to a T flare fitting with one end going into the bottom of the tank and the drivers side going to a manual drain valve (to be replaces with a solenoid when more parts come in, that is why that line is pointing up atm)

Turned on the compressor, soap tested to make sure no leaks, took about 4-5 seconds to get to 150psi...

Put on the Ear muffs and stood about 1 meter (3feet) in front of the truck...

Hit the horn button on my phone.

The glasses rattling on my nose and my organs vibrating in my chest assured me that there would never be any doubt that anyone in front of me will be wearing their brown pants.

Lol I figured it may be a bit too much, don't want to kill anyone. And my ears were ringing again despite having muffs on.

I swapped out the pressure sensor switch to a 100psi one and tried it again,
Still way louder than a semi-truck, and rattles your glasses but may not make your ears shatter if your not wearing hearing protection.

The wife had got home and only heard the 100psi test... from the other end of inside the house... I guess she was not expecting it and was not too impressed. And in the relaxed manner in that wives do, she told me no more testing.

So now that horn button will now be known as the "History Eraser Button".

I have more shut off/isolation valves to install,
    Back flow valve(s) to install,
More nipples and 90's to install,
A regulator and an air chuck connector and cap to install,
Another solenoid so it's just push a button to drain,
And then paint black and put on some split loom so it looks a little more factory,

May change the air line routing from the manifold later on,
just did it this way while I wait for the rest of the stuff.
Getting stuff in these times is a pita.

Since I'll be moving the pressure switch to the manifold when I install the back flow valve I may put two different pressure switches there, one at 100psi and another at 150psi and make a little selector switch/relay between them.

Always something to do, tweak and make better, never finished. Lol

I like your style. I also have an insane noise maker, maybe not quite as loud, but nothing to trifle with. However, I have another ridiculous horn project going in soon, I'm mounting 2 horns in the rear bumper facing backwards, on their own switch. Why? Because it's an idea I've had for a long time, unfortunately I don't know enough about air systems to put together an air horn

I gotta move my dashcam so it's easier to hit the manual record button, Lol and setup the GoPro,

This could be better than I thought.

Guy sitting in the left turn lane texting through the advanced left turn arrow,
is going to need some new nickers,

Could see him jump, and his head swivelling around like an owl on speed looking for that big dump truck.

That is a much more practical, reliable, and cost effective way of doing it.

4 horns like that starts sounding like a train, Lol and will be painful to be standing in front of.

Yeah that's a good idea, ones pointed backwards, a way to tell tail gaiters to fook off.

I have occasionally thought about collecting a bunch of old stock horns for cheap from the wreckers ,
and firing up 10 or 20 at a time and see what happens, fairly easy to do with relays and a switch.

I can only imagine people's faces when they get honked at from in front of them. Yours however will make someone shit their pants in the next state over.

I don't understand why toyota engineers gave our trucks this anemic horn. It sounds like a french moped horn. Give these trucks a voice that commands attention.
