Looks like the weather in Ohio will have them salting the roads most days for the next month. Do you guys keep up washing the salt off or wait for a break in the salt usage? How often do you wash in salty areas? I have some fluid film on the way from Amazon and I'll coat the bottom as best I can in 20 degree weather. Do I also want to get the underage washed after that or rely on the fluid film?

I've been living in Kansas this winter and they use salt heavily here. I wash mine about once a week, especially taking the spray gun and hitting the undercarriage. I look often and notice no rust on the frame, but some of my exhaust is changing color with some rust.

I would wait till summer to film it, just spray it once a week good at the local DYI wash.

I already rust proofed from Krown, like I do every year with every vehicle.
they also offer a salt wash for $15 at krown.

I'll be doing it at the end of the season. They put it up on the lift and spray some salt cleaner they make under to clean it up.
But for regular cleaning I just go to car washes. Usually buy a pass for the shell gas station near my house for 10 washes. Cost about $40 Do it once a week- two weeks as needed.

Haven't tried the tacoma yet though.

I'm in Canada and salt is used regularly along with sodium chloride on the roads. I rinse the undercarriage and body thoroughly every couple days in the winter depending on weather at a DIY to keep everything clean. Seems to work well with a factory undercoating and the use of fluid film in tight or high build up/exposed areas.

as often as possible after the roads are dry. Auto wash here (touchless) is 5 bucks and blasts the undercarriage so it's a cheap task.

    Same as everybody else...
When they do salt or treat the roads I usually wait a few days afterwards and run it thru a brushless carwash with the undercarriage spray. I never let it go more than a couple of days

I hate salt, I mean I hate salt. I get it off as soon as I can. My truck is rustproofed and I use Fluid Flim on springs ,shocks, hitch, hinges. The only the I hate more than salt is rust.

Our garage is heated to about 50 degrees, so the car we put in, gets washed down everytime it gets in if salty. The heat helps to catalize the salt. I keep a baking soda solution, 1lb/gallon that I spray on the undercarriage and car then wash it down. IF I have to take the car out in the snow. bicarb helps to neutralize road salt and

The truck that sits outside gets the under carriage hosed down when above freezing (which is usually about a day or two after the storm here in philly). I use a baking soda spray when I get in the driveway. I just keep it in a desk sprayer.

I dump in a box and fill with hot water and shake. 1/2 of it will fall out of solvent. When I run out of solution I just dump more water into the remaining undissolved baking soda and repeat. Hit everything, like brake calipers, etc. I'll rinse it off the brakes I've done all tires going in same sequence I started. I leave it on the undercarriage until it's time to rinse off when it's warmer or there's no more salt. Takes 5 min. I like that layer of soda on there to keep working until I can rinse it off.

BTW, oil/fluid film the two metal screws in the gas fill. Didn't even think about this, but I guess salt spray gets in there and I see corrosion on the top screw and rust on the bottom screw so I washed them with baking soda and bar/chained them.

    I know, I know!
I spray the under carriage every week. The salt here in Maine is 95% sulphuric acid, 5% unicorn tears. I covered the truck in fluid film when I bought it back in September.

I don't suspect I will see any rust before the Transmission packs in and becomes a lawn ornament!
