    Hello all,

I just got my tacoma 2016 TRD Offroad and love the truck, however one of the oddities i am seeing is the odd vibration that i feel in steering when i come from 30mph down to 10mph in steering wheel, its like a light washboard vibration, this is brand new truck just has 170 mile total, very light driving so cant be warped rotors already, tire pressure is 35 all tires (according to sensors)

any ideas or i am being paranoid?

PS: i did see alot of posts on transmission issues, so far mine is not showing symptoms that have been described etc.

    Welcome to Tacoma World.

It's sad that you are having issues with a truck that is so new.

Perhaps the wheels are not properly balanced?

Does the vibration occur when coasting or only when braking?

If it is only when braking, there could be an issue with the antilock brake system.

Welcome to TW. Great choice on truck.

Sounds wierd what your Taco is doing. Maybe something with the anti brake, or maybe it is just getting to know you.

This is my first Taco as well, and there are many things that are different compared to other vehicles.

If it feels wierd take it back to the dealership, better safe than sorry.

    Enjoy you NEW truck.

Others have reported the same issue, including me as well. It seems to be getting less as I put the miles on mine.

Is it felt ONLY in the steering wheel, not in the brake pedal or in the body?

    It's under warranty...

    If it weren't, I'd proceed with the following ;
    -PSI @ 30
    -tire balance
    -wheel balance
    -rotor/drum balance
    -pinion angle/axle wrap
    - worn u-joint

I had a very similar thing happening in my truck. I greased the u-joints over the weekend and it all but went away. I still get a little bit of the washboard feeling when the trans is downshifting as I approach a stop sign, but for the most part, putting some grease in those joints smoothed a lot of stuff out. They were bone try. My truck only has 600 miles on it.

Note: The #2 zerk/grease fitting (numbering them from front to back - the one behind the exhaust heat shield) is by far the worst one to get to. Highly suggest a quick-disconnect tip on your grease gun if you can get one!

This is a Tacoma issue. It happens on all generations of Tacoma. It has on all of mine. I've owned two 1st gens, one 2nd gen and now my 3rd gen does it as well. There are various causes and fixes, but I've never implemented any of them and it's never caused and problems. It's just something i am used to.

It is most likely due to drive shaft angles.

It is a common issue and NOT transmission related. Happens when coming to a stop in neutral. Feels very, very similar to when driveline angles are out of spec. No fix yet and the dealer I took it to said "sorry, I just feel the road".

But it is a definite problem and I believe it is widespread enough for toyota to issue a TSB soon on it.

If it is truly a driveline angle issue I for one will be demanding an extended warranty from toyota. That absolutely causes premature wear on the driveline if it goes unfixed.

Driveline angle out of spec could be related to rear differential issues so many are reporting too

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Not true. Sounds like warped rotors, shmoo on the rotors/pads, or out of balance tires.

Even after a 3" lift and tires out of factory spec I have zero drive line vibration 20,000mi later.

Someone here posted a set of directions that involved comingu p to 65/70mph and quickly coming to a full stop (on the shoulder of a freeway or similar of course) and doing this several times until the brakes start to fade/get VERY hot.

After this is completed you've hardened the rotors. I can't remember what the process name was called but it was suggested by a company that is involved in racing... I'll try to find the link.

Well I was kind of close but it would be worth tossing in here for information's sake: https://www.zeckhausen.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=6446_6443 this process describes how to best "bed in" your brakes when new.

I have this, it's the driveline departure angle. Dealer replicated mine, just no official fix. Another member had his rear springs replaced and added a shim which fixed the problem, but my dealer won't do that because it's an unapproved fix. He said maybe by October there might be something out from Toyo Corp.

Throw a bunch of weight in the back and try it. Bet it goes away like mine does until you unload the weight.
