I live in south Louisiana. I travel a couple of old 2 lane highways to get to and from work. They're always surrounded by water and there is wildlife. Just a week ago I was on my way to work when this happened. A truck pulling a trailer in the opposite lane (on-coming) and a turtle just trying to get to the water on the other side of the highway had a surprise for me. The trailer tire hit this fairly large turtle and then it became airborne. If you're not aware, a tire can pinch the shell of a turtle and it will shoot out like a bullet. It happened too fast and too close to avoid the impact. It destroyed my grill and condenser. I replaced the condenser that day before leaving work, but I had to wait a week for the grill. I'm not sure if the turtle lived after it was returned to the water about an hour after it happened.
