I got my watch as a reward for some of my hard work over a couple years. The price of my watch has only risen above what I paid for it.

Several years ago, my dad gave me a Luminox watch. He had worn it for seveal years before giving it to me. They have a nice line that includes "dressy" as well as purely functional models. They are reportedly used/issued by some branches of the US military too. My favorite thing about the brand is that their watches are not as common or trendy as many others... I'm a watch guy and it's a hobby that I enjoy. I always find it funny when people almost get angry at how others spend their money......Who cares it's their money.

I always wanted an Omega Seamaster and when I turned 40 I saved and sold stuff I didn't use and bought a year old pre-owned one off of a well known watch collecting site. I saved considerable dough doing it this way and the watch was essentially mint when I got it with all of it paperwork and warranties. Fathers have been passing watches along to their Son's for many generations and my plans are to do this with my Seamaster. It is an automatic and because it is your body's motion that powers the watch I smile when I think about when I'm long gone my Boy may be carrying around a little something of the 'Ol Man's with him and he will be keeping it going. Here's mine.....

Although there are many, many beautiful watches out there that cost much less, I think that when you calculate the cost per day of a fine Swiss watch that with proper care and feeding can last for mutiple lifetimes, the price is quite small.

As far as a status thing goes, other than the few Buddies I have that know watches, it is very rare that someone recognizes the Omega for what it is and I like it that way.

I'm also a big Seiko fan and am in the process of restoring a 30 year old "Arnold". At work I wear a G-Shock.

If you want a quality product and want people to notice it...then drop some coin on a good time piece. I have 7 watches, 1 QUALITY watch that had a hefty price tag...the others range from $7 - $78.

I really like my Citizen Eco-Drive watches. Seem pretty durable, no battery, no winding. Got my first Citizen Eco-Drive almost 5 years ago...still runs perfectly.

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
This is not my idea of a nice watch.

I have a 1963 Omega Seamaster with a 552 movement that my wife bought me and had it sent back to Omega for a refurb.
Completely understated and classic for the next hundred years.
I have a 1973 Seiko Sportmatic that my dad bought in 1976, my daily watch.
    These are both automatic self-winders.
People that know watches appreciate them.
They DO NOT keep time as well as a $39 Casio.
    Neither does a Rolex.
If you want a nice AUTOMATIC, not quartz movement...drop the coin.
    They hold value very well.
    Buy used.
Vintage automatics are fun and beautiful.
They're not my choice for ultimate reliabilty.
Quartz TAG-Heuers are very good for build quality and reliability.
I have two, an original F1 from 1987 and a 1500 two-tone...on my wrist right now.

I say go for it. As mentioned already a good watch won't lose value. Like fine jewlery you can hand down to your children.

This is the watch I have, it was a gift that I sleected for myslef 11 years ago.

    It's a Seiko 7T32-6M69

I get nothing but nice comments, and since I usually dress in black it goes well.

I have a Stainless Steel Links TAG. I spent some money, but I will have this watch till I give it to my son.

I have had it 11 years so far, it is classy, look timeless cool and beat the piss out of a timex.
