Is it true that I just have to ground the parking brake signal cable to be able to watch dvds on my clarion vz409 while moving? or do i have to buy a video bypass unit off of ebay?

be aware, some units (at least pioneer AVIC's) will use the vehicle speed sensor connection to stop you from viewing DVD's while in motion. It requires more than just grounding the parking brake wire.

Although my new eclipse AVN726E just needs the wire grounded.

I bought one of those bypass relays off ebay for my ford , because I installed to 8" monitors in the back of the front seats for the kids. I wired the bypass with a switch so I could shut it off I happened to get pulled over. I don`t watch I usually have the kids use headphones and I can listen to my ipod or the stereo. Some newer receivers don`t work if you just ground it and some do. I have a kenwood kdc-819dvd.

Note that in California it's illegal to have video playing in the front seat while the car is moving if the screen is viewable by the driver.

I just tried grounding it on my Clarion VX409 and it didnt work. I guess I will have to buy a bypass module or use the 12volt switch method.

Very good point. Its illegal in Indiana too, and probably most other states too. The line of "Its for the passenger and I wasn't watching it" won't work. Just be careful!

Isnt it illegal just about anywhere? I know it is in Texas. Whenever my wife and I drive on long trips she likes to watch DVDs, so I'm always on the look out for police driving behind me. Especially at night.
