I've always had a pool of water under the passenger side of the truck ( 1999 Tacoma 2whl ) just under where the exhaust manifold comes down from the engine. I have always wondered what this was and seem to have read somewhere that it was condensation from the a/c or something. But I hardly run the a/c. And it seems that the air vents always blow really cold air whether I have the a/c on or not. Is it possible the a/c is always running ?

    Thanks

    John

Open the hood and run your engine and see if your clutch to your compressor is turning when the AC is off then turn on your AC and look if Clutch is running . As far as the puddle under your passenger side goes , yes it is probably your ac condensation .

    Reserected from the dead.
If you are have the defrost setting dialed in, the A/C pump will run and cause the evaporator to become cool, thus removing humidity from your cab. The humidity is turned into water and is drained to the ground on the passenger side.

"Water dripping on driveway " update
Yup, turned off the defrost and no puddle under the truck. And, no cold air blowing out the vents. And, as expected, the AC clutch disengaged with the defrost off. I cycled the defrost switch and watched the AC come on. Well, this changes everything. For one, I should get better gas mileage. And it won't be so cold in the cab ! Is this how it's supposed to work ?

    Thanks

That is exactly how it is supposed to work. Defog works 1000x better with A/C working as a dehumidifier. If you ever drive a car without A/C and try to defog the window you will understand. haha
